WHAT?! They seem to have ''forgotten'' to mention this in like all the booklets, magazines, articles etc that I've read!

On the slip when collecting your emma's diary pack there was a little asterisk by the 2 phone number boxes and it said at the bottom in smallprint that if you choose to provide your telephone contact details that you're allowing them to contact you by those channels as well as post. And then it says also that emma's diary will pass your details on to selected companies who will send you vouchers and may contact you regarding products/services. There is an opt-out box though.

I haven't filled in anything from my Emma's Diary pack but I did go online as I hadn't received one until recently. It's not like me to give my correct phone number though so I must have been really dizzy that day! Grrr.

  • Right - now I am confused. When I seen the MW today she told me that I was 4/5 engaged. I asked her if that meant that baby could come at any time and she told me yes and that it would be very unlikley that the baby would change position and that I was lucky that at this stage she was in such good position. Now I am looking online and it looks like 4/5's doesnt mean the above and only means 1/5 is engaged (think ive got this right) really peeved off if this is the case becoz the way the midwife was talking was as if baby could come anytime. Im getting angry and now if DH comes home early and I end up going over my due date he's gonna be peeved off aswell. :(

sharkey it could be that you still have a way to go I checked this out

If you're not sure whether your baby has engaged yet, ask your midwife at your next appointment. By gently pressing around the lower part of your bump, she can feel how far your baby has dropped down into your pelvis.

Your midwife will write a figure in your notes to record how many fifths of your baby's head she can feel above the edge of your pelvis. So 5/5 or 4/5 in your notes means that your baby hasn't dropped down yet, while 3/5 or 2/5 or less means that your baby is engaged.

It's all very confusing as you would think it was the other way about???

oooohhh so have I been getting it wrong? I thought 5/5 would mean fully engaged? So me being 2-3/5ths after last times 2/5 means baby is less engaged than he was? Not more? *confused*

OK just looked at my bills for the last 2 years...

We've used 500 more units on electric in 2010 than 2009!! I obviously have not been nagging OH enough for leaving lights on and his more annoying habit of having the tumble dryer on for 90 minutes when it might only need 40 or 60 minutes. Of course the increase can't possibly be my fault ;)

Our gas usage is actually 100 lower on 2009, so happy with that.

I also realise now that some of the increase includes money to pay for the debit we're in (due to price rises I assume for last year).

Still I feel better having looked into it.

Just updated my maternity and baby budget and we have spent £2 shy of a grand so far on stuff  Given that doesn't include two major items - we got a free travel system and still haven't bought a cot or indeed decorated a nursery that's a lot of dosh.

Nor have we got any bottles, sterilisers or feeding paraphenalia - cos mw's are very keen that you give breast feeding a good shot first.

It doesn't feel like we've bought a lot, anyone else keeping a spending tally and want to share/compare??

Giz, I'll make you all feel better we pay £100 pm for oil heating and £80 per month electric (no gas). And, we're at work all day. And, we only go in to credit in summer and go over in winter and by spring we're about straight.

Nic, there's a cheapy buggie on Kiddicare.com from Hauck. Think it was £9.99 if you search for it.

Twoflower - congratulations on Darcy. Can't wait to see pictures.

EA - sorry for not saying but Happy Birthday for yesterday

Mr Boots, I went today. Didn't want much just to mooch. £62.98 later and nobody has consideration for bumps when they're pushing you out of the way. It was carnage but I was out by 9.20am and on way to work.

Finger up bum !!!!!!!?? Everybody gets this personal service???

Check your maternity notes. Maybe she was explaining that 4/5 was already engaged and she could only feel 1/5? :/

Sharkey - relax relax relax... a baby can be fully engaged for weeks and induction needed or can go from totally free to head crowning within hours. If you feel the need to have DH home, get him home. For me with baby 1 it literally felt like bowling ball in my bits and you could feel her shift up slightly when I sat down. Waddle walk was me.
