Hi all - just popping out from occasional lurking!

MV - congratulations on your gorgeous baby. I remember my boobs being solid and swollen for a few days when my milk came in, but they went down considerably after just a few days, so hang on in there. The more you can feed the better. Also, if it hasn't been mentioned, chilled savoy cabbage leaves work wonders on sore boobs. You can also buy these which apparently take away some of the discomfort.

Take care all you preggie ladies! Hope to be joining you again soon with baby No. 2. Just off to join the TTC thread for the second time! Honestly, you could document my life by looking up my posts on MSE.com....

    Hey peeps
Not had time to read back much, huge congrats to MV and Lillian :) MV Josh is gorgeous, I want my baby now too!!
Tickle, just sending you a :grouphug: xx and Nic same to you :grouphug: (I read your post earlier but didn't get a chance to reply).

I am feeling quite jealous of the secret FB group, saying that my iphone has broken so I can barely read on here or FB at the moment. Fingers crossed the apple shop people take pity on me tomorrow and sort it out. Is anyone able to add me? I am on the other FB group, my name is quite like mine on here and I'm stroking a tiger  in my pic!

Also (sorry to just come on here to rant) but need a rant :(:mad:
Just got a txt from OH about the new paternity rules saying he can take 3 months off when bubs is 6 months old. Now I am feeling very selfish, but also feeling really upset (ready to burst into tears) at the idea of doing this.
I originally wanted to take a year but OH said no, so have already reduced the amount I would ideally be taking. I think babies get more interesting after 6 months (hence wanting to stay off for at least 9) and to top it all I've been saving every penny I can, I paid off quite a bit of OH's debt a few years ago and I told him at the time that that was the money I'd saved in case we had kids so I could afford to take ML. OH on the other hand has saved nothing.

Now, possibly OH is joking (will have to wait and see him later as don't trust myself not to cry on the phone) however I can see from his point of view as well, I earn a bit more than him so financially it'd make sense (altho I was hoping to go back 3 or 4 days a week). How do I get my own way without coming across as completely selfish (and sorry if it seems that way on here - I think I am pretty hormonal as well which isn't helping).

Hugs to everyone and sorry for the rant (especially coming after being MIA for a while).

    Em xx

    :grouphug: dodgy hugs!

rants are best posted here :D

I dont know what to say, although if he isnt joking maybe write down your concerns. I find it easier than trying to hold a sensible conversation then breaking down into tears.

    Thanks everyone :)

A lot of the midwives had commented on how alert, and strong he seems to be!

Keep forgetting he's only 3 days old!

I'm struggling with breastfeeding too. I don't enjoy it, find it really hard and my boobs are like 2 painful rocks..it's so uncomfortable, and Josh struggles to latch on as my boobs are like over inflated footballs :(

I've tried expressing too, but not much comes out and he's still hungry and screams. We've added in a few formula feeds too, but I think that it makes him windy.

I'm hoping these are all normal worries, and it seems lilian is having problems too.

To ladies who have babies already, do your boobs soften up a bit when the milk properly comes in, and how long does that take? Think I'm still producing collustrom (sp?)..quite yellowy looking liquid?
Hi MV, I know nothing but after reading about Lilians troubles I've been swatting up reading my book. Some points that might help:

    * Remember they only need a tiny amount of collustrum and that it's really rich and your body knows what to produce so try and have confidence that the baby is getting what he needs.

    * At my breastfeeding class they advised that if you can't breastfeed the collustrum to express it onto a teaspoon and try and feed to baby that way. Probably a bit late for that advice though. I remember her saying you'll think it's hardly anything on the spoon, but that it's OK. And it's normal to be a tiny bit.

    * The book says that when your milk comes in (usually 3 to 7 days after giving birth) you may (most likely by the sounds of it) get really sore rock hard huge boobs for 24 - 48 hours! Nice huh? It says that during this period you may struggle to feed because baby will struggle latching on with the boobs being so solid. It sounds like after this period that's when things get a little easier.

Just reread your post - maybe your milk is coming in soon if you have rocks :)

    Hope it gets easier (hugs)

MV, try feeding him before he gets too hungry... You'll find you both get a little less stressed if you approach it calmly and slowly... The more you feed him, the more signals your body is getting about how much milk he needs and the quicker your breasts will settle down and be less hard... Don't worry about expressing at this point. If you're only making colostrum it is a highly highly concentrated form of milk and only comes in tiny amounts... He only needs tiny amounts to fill his tummy which is why it feels like all you do is feed him... it will settle down I promise!!

Ema, I think they are just proposed paternity rules (unless you're abroad?) and TBH, if I had paid a lot of his debt off, and saved my own money towards maternity leave when he hasn't then I wouldn't care about appearing selfish... At the end of the day they are only babies for a very short period of time and if you want to spend as much of that time with them as you can then tell him where to get off!
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

  • Even though my last one with DD didnt work it didnt hurt as much as it sounds IYKWIM. It sounds like some cruel torture technique.... but the Drs that do it are very good and have my utmost respect (its just the consultants who wont refer me till the last minute I have issues with lol).

lol! - the consultant told me that I he could try this procedure when DS was found to be breech at my routine 39 week midwife appointment - but didn't seem too hopeful for a successful outcome - the scan showed DS to be over 8lb and he mentioned something to do with our bloods mixing (I'm O neg) and said that if DS went in to distress he would have to perform an emergency section.

I went for the c section the next day option and haven't regretted it but I was told that the procedure was just uncomfortable although it sounds rather awful

It does sound like some sort of cruel torture technique lol. Makes me wanna cross me legs and put my arms around my bump to protect it! :D :rotfl::rotfl:

  • krystal thanks for that, I was just going to say to MV to pm you or ask you on the parents' thread.

MV if you can keep going the rewards are endless, NCT has excellent breastfeeding support also and I don't think you even have to be a member.

Afternoon ladies and bumps (or in MV's case, lady and baby)

Wow, a lot to read through today! Sorry to hear that some people aren't having great days and hugs to them.

    MV -
Congratulations! He's so cute, I just sat here and awww-ed at my screen.

Apricot - I'm only coming up to 15 weeks and I woke up at 8am with horrible back and stomach pain! It was like someone was trying to drill a hole through me and the more I tried to get comfortable, the more my back hurt. So I got up, walked around the flat for a bit and stretched for a while and that seemed to help. Think my stomach ache was just hunger as I wasn't able to eat much at all yesterday.

Last night I was in the bath, and noticed that bump is definitely appearing. It's only little at the moment but it's definitely there. MW had told me I might start to show quite early as I had quite a small waist and flat tummy before. I figured I might end up with a huge bump eventually anyway, if I take after my mother. Both my brother and I were 10lb babies. He was a fat one, I was a long one. I'm quite worried about it being a large baby, as I'm guessing that makes a C-section more likely?

Also had a nice email surprise. I'd entered a competition before christmas with Menkind (I was an avid comper before pregnancy took away my motivation to sit here every evening and comp :P ) and it turns out I was a runner up so won a £20 voucher. I used it to buy one of those ATM moneybank things (which was reduced to £20) and have decided it will be my early Valentine's gift to OH to help him save up for baby. He'll have the code number for it (as it's a bit like a safe) but it will stay at my house as he's hopeless at saving money so if he had it, it would always be empty. Also this way, I can still put money into it, so we'll both be saving together, and unlike his idea of a savings account with an extra cardholder, OH won't be able to touch the money unless I agree. I'm the responsible one in our relationship :)

There's quite a few ladies not been on, Susan c, coops and cutterby were all posting regularly before Xmas, hope everones ok.
Thanks for noticing I wasn't around. My hyperemesis got really bad and I ended up being in hospital over Christmas (although I probably would have been out by Christmas Day if it wasn't for hospital incompetence). I'm well enough to get up a little bit now and pop on the computer and just about managing to eat and drink enough which is good.
