Im not a mum yet so not sure this counts as advice , but have you tried putting a warm flannel on your breasts and then gently try to get some milk out. My mum went for a bath just after she had my brother and her milk came flying out , so maybe the warm water does something xx
Thanks to MSE for making it possible for me save to buy my new flat , yay !!
Gorgeous baby boy born 7/7/11 :D
  • Thank you princess.

I have the MW coming over tomorrow so I shall speak to her then. OH has to literally help me latch him on, and often Josh just screams and gets himself into a fury and I'm left feeling upset and useless :(

Been using the Medela breast pump to express, and hardly getting anything, particularly from the right breast which is so swollen.

I do want him to get the best nutrition, but I don't want me to be dreading feeding him everytine which I am at the moment.

OH is going out to get a few things..I'm nervous being on my own with the baby
    :o

Congrats MV - can't advise you much on the breastfeeding as I wasn't very good at that but being nervous being alone with the baby is quite normal so don't be embarrased- from memory everything is a bit disorientating at the moment anyway.
Looks like you've got a little heartbreaker on your hands there x

MV he is one cute baby! I'm sure I'll be more than nervous first time alone when I have mine. Hope the breast feeding works out for you. I know my SIL got so stressed trying to bf with so much conflicting advice, it quickly fell into place doing what she was comfortable with.

I've still got headache, been to lunch at my mums but now back in bed. Think my blood pressure up which they told me to keep eye on, GP says midwife will do, midwife said GP will. So...who do I go to if no better! Forget who said but just love the nhs at times.

fanta congrats on 24 weeks, i'm 19 today, 9 days until scan:).
:heart2:Baby boy madbird arrived 15/06/11 by emergency csection weighing 9lb 13oz:eek: love him so much xx:heart2:
  • Thanks everyone :)

A lot of the midwives had commented on how alert, and strong he seems to be!

Keep forgetting he's only 3 days old!

I'm struggling with breastfeeding too. I don't enjoy it, find it really hard and my boobs are like 2 painful rocks..it's so uncomfortable, and Josh struggles to latch on as my boobs are like over inflated footballs :(

I've tried expressing too, but not much comes out and he's still hungry and screams. We've added in a few formula feeds too, but I think that it makes him windy.

I'm hoping these are all normal worries, and it seems lilian is having problems too.

To ladies who have babies already, do your boobs soften up a bit when the milk properly comes in, and how long does that take? Think I'm still producing collustrom (sp?)..quite yellowy looking liquid?

Best things I found was a warm flannel and massage the boobs starting from the chest and armpit area, just gently and it works the milk down. That and being distracted by the TV, if i concerntrated to hard I got frustrated.

MV Maybe give the National Breastfeeding Helpline a call - 0300 100 0212. A friend of mine volunteers for them after she found them useful when she was having problems with feeding - I believe it is staffed completely by women who have breastfed so they may be able to talk you through it a bit more. Also with regards to the expressing if it is still colostrum you are producing baby only needs about a teaspoon or so so that's why you don't get much out.

Can I be a bit dull and ask what an EVC is?

Sorry ECV external cephalic version - turning a breech baby to head down through manual manipulation of mummies tummy basically.

    Hey peeps
Not had time to read back much, huge congrats to MV and Lillian :) MV Josh is gorgeous, I want my baby now too!!
Tickle, just sending you a :grouphug: xx and Nic same to you :grouphug: (I read your post earlier but didn't get a chance to reply).

I am feeling quite jealous of the secret FB group, saying that my iphone has broken so I can barely read on here or FB at the moment. Fingers crossed the apple shop people take pity on me tomorrow and sort it out. Is anyone able to add me? I am on the other FB group, my name is quite like mine on here and I'm stroking a tiger  in my pic!

Also (sorry to just come on here to rant) but need a rant :(:mad:
Just got a txt from OH about the new paternity rules saying he can take 3 months off when bubs is 6 months old. Now I am feeling very selfish, but also feeling really upset (ready to burst into tears) at the idea of doing this.
I originally wanted to take a year but OH said no, so have already reduced the amount I would ideally be taking. I think babies get more interesting after 6 months (hence wanting to stay off for at least 9) and to top it all I've been saving every penny I can, I paid off quite a bit of OH's debt a few years ago and I told him at the time that that was the money I'd saved in case we had kids so I could afford to take ML. OH on the other hand has saved nothing.

Now, possibly OH is joking (will have to wait and see him later as don't trust myself not to cry on the phone) however I can see from his point of view as well, I earn a bit more than him so financially it'd make sense (altho I was hoping to go back 3 or 4 days a week). How do I get my own way without coming across as completely selfish (and sorry if it seems that way on here - I think I am pretty hormonal as well which isn't helping).

Hugs to everyone and sorry for the rant (especially coming after being MIA for a while).

    Em xx

Even though my last one with DD didnt work it didnt hurt as much as it sounds IYKWIM. It sounds like some cruel torture technique.... but the Drs that do it are very good and have my utmost respect (its just the consultants who wont refer me till the last minute I have issues with lol).

Monday night tele is sooooo good, don't forget America's Next Top Model. What is so infuriating though is I always have the worse nights sleep on a sunday - cos OH is in bed with me (he normally works nights but is home sat and sun nite but sleeps in the spare bed sat nite cos he likes to stay up late).

So I always have to go to bed about 8pm on a monday cos I'm so tired and have to do some crafty sky plussing to make sure it's all recorded.

Bring on mat leave - 9 weeks to go :j
Aw I don't have sky :( So can't watch America's Next Top Model. I also hear True Blood season 3 has started on FX. I have to wait for channel 4. I wanted to watch Biggest Loser too, luckily that's repeated a few times...I can only record 2 channels at once. All I can say is thank god for the plus 1 channels. Although has anyone noticed that the ITV2+1 is now ITV1+1?

hi everyone, hope you are all doing well, just a question i would like to ask - i am due 20th march and I have taken 3 weeks off work before this as holiday but getting to the stage of wondering if I should add on another 2 weeks before this so it will be 5 weeks before I am due, I am just wondering what everyone else has done in the past, would I feel 5 weeks drag or will I be grateful for the time off beforehand, I am really interested to hear what everyone has done. I don't feel ill or anything but starting to feel I can't be bothered with work! would really appreciate any replies, thanks.
I finished 5 weeks before my due date, so could have 7 weeks if I get to 42 weeks. I've been off for 3 weeks on Wednesday and I can honestly say I am not bored! I actually thought I would be, so I'm loving it so far. I get quite tired and achey now, so I get to chill for a bit without feeling guilty inbetween chores. I've done all my jobs now, so it's me time and just normal everyday chores. I've done some reading which is just great - I've not had time to read a book since my last holiday. Another thing is I HATE my work. I think if I loved my job then another 2 weeks at work wouldn't have been too bad. But I don't think I could have coped with much more than that and mine is just a desk job.

Going to do a bump/flab pic tonight ,Im 16 weeks today !!! Will take it on my bberry , how do I get it on here ? Also is anyone else having trouble parking their car? Its like one side of my brain has been wired wrong , Im always forgetting words and cant seem to park my car for love nor money. We have a private space that came with my flat and its big enough to fit a bus in , will be handy when bubs comes but at the minute it takes me 5 attemps to get in , lol
Not had trouble parking but I've managed to hit 2 cars since about 30 weeks preggers. And had a couple of close calls. I find I am so absent minded. The first car I hit was when I skidded on ice during the snow at traffic lights and I was only doing about 5mph so apart from cracking my own number plate I don't think I did any damage to his car (he never phoned).

Then I reversed into a car in a car park. I felt like such a !!!!. Been driving for 13 years and never done anything like that until now.

Am having to be extra careful now driving. I triple check everything.
