PC, I really wouldn't worry!! The crib DD2 slept on had a matress that had been stored in a loft for 4 years... She moved into DD1s cotbed with a mattress that had been stored in my built in wardrobe for well over a year (after DD1 had slept on it for 4 years!) She's fine... My belief is the guidelines are aimed at those that stuck their lead painted cots in the loft in the 70s and are shaking them off and getting them out for the grandchildren...

The mattress we'll be using in the upstairs cot is a cotton covered sprung one... It's in the build in wardrobe now, has been for a few months... I'll probably give it a vacuum before I use it to make sure DD2 hasn't filled it with skin cells... But I really don't feel that there will be dangerous chemicals leaching out of it to suffocate the baby in the night...
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

Krystal, I'm not getting a new mattress for either the Moses basket or cotbed. Mh Moses basket was off Freegle from a non smoker and no pets person. It is also PVC covered so I'll buy nice new sheets and that's it.

The cot bed is the same one we bought 6 years ago for DD. It has been used for ds up until 6 months ago then been under ds's bed since then.
I know the baby will be in the Moses basket for a matter of weeks and the mattress was a good sprung one from Mothercare so no way I'm buying a new one for my last baby.
It's is breathable and wipeable on one side it's clean too.

I'll also be using the same car seat as we had 6 years ago for DD and DS. Someone mentioned they shouldn't be used after a certain amount of time.

I reckon as you say it's for really really old item stored in possible mouldy lofts etc. But I also think its a ploy by retailers to get us to buy more.

Teenie did you end up getting the flu jag? Just wondering how you felt afterwards?

I really didn't want to get it but I feel bullied by others and made to feel irresponsible. Especially my mum and mil reaction when they found out i hadn't had it yet.

I'm going to call today to get it just to keep everyone happy.

I've taped OBEM last night to watch today. I seem to be the only person who hasn't watched any. Is it good or is it going to put the fear into me?

The screamer on OBEM did make me laugh, even though I felt a bit sorry for her as well (more so for the 18 year old listening to her though). I want that midwife, the one that told her "don't you start that again!" when she started yelling AFTER having an epidural...
  • Morning ladies and bumps. I had a much better sleep last night and I feel so much better for it.
Nic - I didnt watch OBEM either last night, have taped it and will watch it at some point this week im still a wee bit cautious about watching it, scares me a lot.lol. I had my flu jag back in september and I feel that I done the right thing, but please dont feel pressured into doing something that you are not comfortable in.

Today I am going to venture out of the house and try and sort out my housing benefit, havent had the energy to do it in the past couple of days so will go out fo a wee while today which will no doubt knacker me for the rest of the day. Also have some gift vouchers that I got for Xmas that I am desperate to spend but will hold off for after bubs is born and can get some nice new clothes.

    Labour vibes for MV. xx

Alamaya - it's very normal to not get any movement yet - especially if you have an anterior placenta. With my DS, I didn't get anything at all until past 26 weeks, and he was a big strong baby as it turned out. But if you feel that it would reassure you to have a check, then that is what your midwives are there for, and I'm sure they won't mind.

I think everyone worries a bit, but you have passed the riskiest part of your pregnancy, and baby was fine at the scan, so in all probablility you have a very healthy and happy little bean wriggling around in there :)
  • 24 weeks today! VIABILITY!!! Woo! It's like I should be waving pom poms about or something lol. I've been told the next 4 weeks are massive in terms of bubs being able to survive outside the womb. Going from 40% to 90% apparently. It will be such a relief to hit that 30 week mark but 24 weeks is a good start for now!

How quick is time passing though?! I still remember thinking the 12 week scan date would never come quickly enough!

Sending lots of labour vibes to those who need it and hugs to everyone else! :)

newbies - Welcome I see theres a couple but I cannot rememebr names sorry but welcome anyways!!!

Ice - I went from a size 8 to a size 16 in my first pregnancy although I wasnt well when I was an 8 which meant I was happy for the weight gain. I then worked hard and toned and shaped my my body back to a 10/12 and as soon as I bought a load of new clothes to fit my great shape I got pregnant again lol So I have made an effort not to go on the scales and just know that I can and will get by shape back eventually (although Im a little less inclined to give up chocolate this time :P)

I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it.

Well im glad i got my flu jab on left arm becoz i sleep on my right arm and it feels like someone has punched it. Watched OBEM last night ,watched the previous series and there was a screamer last time. My OH was really annoyed at that woman last night , I told him to grab me by the arm and shout at me if i go on like that. When my SIL gave birth there was a screamer in before her and she said that she was terrified of the noises coming out of the room. Did anyone see the clips of the girl that gives birth next week ?!?!?! OMG she was so skinny and pretty and was actually laughing while giving birth ?!? Got my maternity work trousers on today , first outing of them. Only becoz Ive got to go to the hospital today to get a mole of my back checked and i thought I would get in trouble if he saw my mini bump squashed into size 8 high waister trousers (our uniform is so trendy , the trousers fasten just under the boob, lol )My SIL told me not to wear maternity stuff too soon (i.e when you have tiny bump like me ) because she said you soon get of the sight of the same work clothes over and over. Anyhoo hope everyone is okay today ,Labour vibes to MV (once youve had a good nap tho)
Thanks to MSE for making it possible for me save to buy my new flat , yay !!
Gorgeous baby boy born 7/7/11 :D
