Hi. Just found out i'm pregnant. Feel a bit scared, and lost and excited and have got to tell my hubby!
  • HAPPY NEW YEAR FOLKS!!

Massive congrats Tiger..Emily is such a pretty name. Glad you had a relatively easy birth too :)

We had a pretty disasterous NYE. Went over to my folks as I had my 38 week MW appointment in the afternoon. Saw yet another MW who although not quite as unpleasant as the one I normally see, was completely barking mad. Again I felt rushed in and out and couldn't ask the questions I wanted to.

OH came with me too, and it was the first time he'd heard babies heartbeat, which would have been really special if this woman hadn't been a complete freak. Fingers crossed I get nice midwives when I actually give birth!

Then went for a meal in the evening with my OH, my mum, dad and brother to an Indian resturant near where they live. My dad had booked the table weeks ago, yet when we arrived there was no table for us, a packed resturant with other parties seeming to get seated ahead of us  and crappy servuce all round.

They finally squeezed the 5 of us onto a table for 4 which was way too small, and when I complained they gave me a load of b*llocks and excuses.

Eventually they said there was a bigger table being made ready, which was right next to a horrible, rowdy table of about 20 blokes and women, all pi55ed, swearing, shouting and making so much noise we couldn't even hear each other speak. I could just see it getting worse and worse as the evening went on (they had only just ordered their starters!), so I told my mum and dad that I wanted to leave..felt so awful for my poor dad as he'd booked the table and wanted us all to have a nice evening, but really is was so horrible it would have been more of an endurance test than a nice NYE meal.

So we all left, didn't know what to do, all resturants fully booked and it was getting towards 9pm at this point. Finally managed to get into a rubbish Thai resturant near my folks that is overpriced and not very good at all, but at least it was quiet (probably because of aforementioned reasons!), and had a second rate meal in there. It was all a bit crap. I would have preferred to just stay at home to be honest!

Still, saw the NY in with the family and a glass of champagne, which was nice.

Gosh..sorry for the rant...don't blame anyone for not bothering to read all that!!

9 days to go for me now  Baby has been going wild the last few days so think he's close now. Mental midwife told me he was now fully engaged and won't move again, so that's good.

    I'm excited..but terrified too!

Hi everyone, wishing you all a happy & healthy new year, not been on for a while, just getting over a dreadful bout of flu think my immune system is on the floor at the mo, seems to be a lot of it about.
I have a quick question I have been looking on the Lloyds pharmacy website and I have seen a labour tens machine for £30 which I am interested in buying. Does anyone have any experience of using these machines, and if so was worth buying and how effective was it, is it worth me forking out the cash or don't bother. I would appreciate if anyone has the time to reply,

Hope your feeling better soon. I used a TENS machine, even though I said i wouldn't before hand, and I will use one this time round now too. It was great in the early stages and DH helped me with it which made him feel involved. I asked about hiring one but a few people said to just buy one and ebay it if necessary afterwards.

Chakani - What a pain! :( I do know what you mean about happening on your own I have a (nearly) 3 year old and im terrified about going into labour when its just him and me, luckily oh's family are literally up the road and his mum works on same road as us so someone can come at anytime to help if need be - problem is would I want one of oh's brothers coming round while im in labour :o my own mother is coming (god knows how long for) and although I do kind of want her here I get cranky when I dont have my own space and she lives in scotland so she cant just nip in :)

Can you talk to your mum and just say "I really do want you to come and stay for a little while but just you" you could then tell dad you want to do bonding with mum or something and he can come as soon as baby born (you dont have to tell him as soon as just when your ready) or say you dont feel comfortable having your dad see all your bits - sure this is true :rotfl: maybe as soon as he ealises the labour part is included hell back off as sure he doesnt want to see that lol.

Either way its YOUR birth so you do what YOU want and hen worry about everyone else later. Yeh he may be annoyed but if mums with you then she wont haveto put up with it till after by which time hell have a shiny new randson and sure hell be fine lol

    Metranil - how exciting!!!!!! :D

ecoelle - Welcome and well done :D excited for you is this your first? when you telling hubby?

my1stbaby - hope you continue to feel better - dont know about the tens machine sorry

Thanks Annie, it is our first! We wanted to wait until we'd got married, then we stopped trying to not get pregnant, and then, i don't know why but yesterday i bought a couple of tests and then this morning tested, then tested again, then once hubby had gone to work i drove to a local pharmacy bought two of the digital tests and tested again, can't quite believe it! I have bought a pair of booties and wrapped them up. Me and my hubby have been paying off our debts for ages, and we decided on a present free December, but then he bought me a box of Chocs foe New Year, so i've texted him at work to tell him i have a present for him when he gets in! I'm just going to give him the wrapped booties, and then stand holding the tests!!!! He's oing to be so excited.

Is it normal to be really scared, i'm petrified that i know nothing, and am somehow going to get it all wrong!

Dunno about anyone else, but I've felt like this for the past 7 months!

In the early stages, my advice is to make sure you drink plenty (I'm sure everyone on here is bored of me telling people this by now :D ). If you don't, you could easily find yourself being rehydrated on a drip in a ward full of women who are about to give birth. Aside from that, many congratulations :j, and remember to take folic acid and do your pelvic floor exercises.

From my experience, everyone on here is lovely and very friendly, so feel free to ask whatever questions you want answering.
If having different experiences, thoughts and ideas to you, or having an opinion that you don't understand, makes me a troll, then I am proud to be a 100% crying, talking, sleeping, walking, living Troll. :hello:
