    Stupid question here.
I get paid a monthly wage with the nhs.
On maternity leave everything is in weeks (ie 8 weeks at full pay, 18 weeks half pay +smp etc). Does that mean in a 5 week month i will get a higher amount that wage?

I also get paid monthly and I assumed I would get paid pro-rata (not sure if that is the right term).

So I get 6 weeks at 90% so would get Januarys pay at 90% then February's pay would be some at 90% (just under 2 weeks) and then the rest at SMP.

that is indeed how it works.

I think i am being elbowed today........ its very strange. was obvious kicks the other week. today its much more precise but more the light popping sensation of a few weeks ago.... can only assume he is punching internal organs on my back and my tummmy is just getting 'hit back'.
loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:

Thanks for the reassurances guys. Good to hear everyone else has worries too.
I know it's ridiculous and I honestly am excited. I just feel like I don't want to get too giddy incase I'm heading for a fall.

Re: mat pay Alamaya, I'm nhs too and had a very detailed email from my HR advisor on how much payment you get and when. I'll copy it here tomorrow when I'm back in work xc

Is this normal? I've been so lucky so far in the 3rd trimester, felt great most of the time aside from some pelvic pain which rest fixes most of the time. But the last week I've had a couple of periods (a few hours each) where I've come over ill. Like yesterday we treated ourselves to a Pizza Hut (been craving pizza for ages) and I felt so ill while eating it, but stupidly carried on eating too much. Then I felt like I was going to throw up (but didn't). Belly was rock hard and I found it uncomfortable sitting and thought maybe it was another braxton, but I'm not sure these can be braxtons. The rock hardness lasts for ages. In the end I laid down on my left and baby seemed to shift making breathing a bit easier, but soon went to bed because I felt quite rough.

In the morning and all of today I'm fine and dandy again. I'm sure it's all normal. It's just seems to knock me out for a few hours and at the time I feel so rubbish. I think what concerns me more is I'm being a wimp and I've still got labour to come :)

Dusty, I was born with a birthmark on my forehead. It wasn't huge, and faded by the time I was 13 so that only people who know it's there can spot it. If I'm really tired or stressed, or very cross it's a little bit visible. In a strange kind of way I miss it as it was always there in the mirror when I was younger.

As for me, I'm scared of having an ugly baby.

I know I'll love it no matter how it looks but as I'm not a mother now I dwell on the practicalities rather than emotions now.

Re: ugly baby, I've made my friends promise to tell me if my baby is ugly. Obv they never would and I'd do terrible things to anyone who said it was :rotfl:

  • Dusty that must've taken a lot for you to write that hun. As a self confessed worry wart I spent the first 22 weeks of this pregnancy worrying far too much for my own good.

After having an mmc last year I was so worried about going through that again and having to deal with the heartache that we were going through this time last year again. Once we'd had the 20 week scan I decided to try and stop worrying quite so much.

Don't get me wrong I still have worries. My main one being the same as GFH's with her other pregnancy - death in childbirth. OH has also been worried about it and we have even had discussions about me keaving instructions in case the worst happened. Morbid yes, maybe but it was obviously bothering him as he brought it up and we always talk things through with each other no matter what they are.

I worry about the birth and what might happen, how much it will hurt and tearing etc. Most of all I worry about then having this tiny person who we are responsible for and our lack of experience with babies but I know that we will always strive to do our best and will love and care for bubs even of we don't always do everything right. After all sometimes you have to do wrong to learn the right way :o

I think when you are a first time mum it's so hard as you are entering into a world of the unknown but as MV says I see it as a new chapter in our lives and one that will bring new challenges and take us on an exciting journey into parenthood.

You are going to be a fab mummy - the fact that you have these worries alone shows that :) I hope that knowing some of us have worries too has helped a bit.

Congratulations to those who have discovered what team they are on over the past couple of days :)

As the others have said Teenie don't ever feel like you can't come on and express how you are feeling. If you are really feeling down then maybe a trip to the doctor would help, if not we are always here to listen.

  • Dusty - You are 100% normal. Everyone has their freak out moment, it is unique to all of us what it is about. With DD my big one was needing a csection, and thats what I had to have so I just had to get on with it lol. I now have an irrational fear of episiotomy, and not getting pain relief when I want it. You are not allowed to have these worried they are mine :D Oh and pelvic floor! I worry that I will pee when I laugh once baby is here so I am pelvic floor obsessed lol.

Also DD has a birthmark on her face just like her dad, its right between her eyes but only shows when her face is wet, or she is stressed. It goes bright red, OH's is a circle and DD's is more like harry potters lol. I was scarred by forceps at birth across my face but its only visible when I am ill as it goes white. But if we are all well and not stressed they arent visible at all.

I get paid only for full weeks within the month whilst on SMP but usually I get paid calendar month IYKWIM.
