  • Lablover I have a moses basket ready for next week when baby makes his appearance, I'll use it at night until he's sleeping through then he'll be in his cot in his own room. If he follows his brother and sister should be no more than 10 weeks......fingers crossed! Now watch him make me out to be the biggest liar!

You could use the moses basket for day time naps, mine slept variously in the pram, on the floor on a rug, in a baby swing, in the moses basket and on me. For the first baby you don't have to worry about older children stepping on/over them and flying missiles (toys) ;)

I lived in a 1 bed flat when DD1 was born and I just put her in her cot! I think the point of moses baskets is to save on taking baby up and down the stairs and so you can hear them when you're busy.

Squeak always slept in her pram which I had up in my lounge until a couple of weeks ago, now I put her up in her cot because it's too noisy down here for her and she gets disturbed!
Yeah if I had a flat I'd put baby in the cot to sleep. We've got a moses basket for having downstairs and to hopefully use in the early months upstairs at night for by the bed. Then have the cotbed in the nursery for baby to move into later.

We only got the moses basket in the end because I decided against the pram part of the pushchair we got. The original plan was for baby to sleep in pram downstairs and then have the cotbed by our bed.

My friend said her baby only fit in the moses basket for 3 months despite the info saying they can last for up to 6 months. Guess it depends how big the baby gets. So it could be a big waste of money. They aren't exactly cheap IMO. Unless you get given one and then just buy a new mattress for it.

Thanks everyone for your replies, I have ages yet to figure out what I need to get , but just wanted a rough idea. My pram will have to sit outside my door in stairwell(Private apartment block) and I do have a very clumsy dog , very cute and lovely but very clumsy. I dont need to buy the crib my SIL is giving me hers (just need to buy mattress) SIL is giving me maxi-cosi car seat , her baby hardly used it as he was pretty big.(so i know its not been in any accidents etc as SIL doesnt drive ) was only really used for MIL to pick her up from hospital and take her and bubs to appointments. My mum wants to buy pram , so will be something that is compatible with maxi-cosi car seat.Cant wait to Christmas holidays , we have to wear a uniform to work ( very itchy suits) and my trousers fit fine at the legs and bottom but are so tight at the waist now , need to sit with button undone and zip down , cant wait to just sit at home in leggings over festive period.
Thanks to MSE for making it possible for me save to buy my new flat , yay !!

  • Lablover - moses basket only lasted DD 8 weeks, but to be honest she would sleep on the floor on top of a folded blanket swaddled, even now at nursery she walks over to a corner of the room and just lies down and goes off to sleep. All the staff find this highly amusing.

Right must go do wedding stuff I have no motivation even though I know its tomorrow I just want to sit down and faff lol

Well I'm back, didn't get seen as my appt was at 11am and at 11.45 I was still sitting there and then told there were 2 to go in before me so I took the opportunity to reschedule.

Am now back in on the 11th Jan when I'll have my 28 wk MW appt too.

MW was great this morning, had all my forms there ready. Bubs sounded like a train this morning, was a horse last time - is a train a girl or a boy? I thought girl but MW said boy?.

I have ssoooooo much to do this week. Not wrapped a single pressie yet, have the food shopping to do, need to finish the painting in the bathroom - my stress levels are at fever pitch...

Why does no-one tell me that christmas is coming? :rotfl:

Fairyshazza - I went to docs yesterday re ear. he said it looked like an infection and has given me antibiotics. although he said to give it a few days to see if it goes on it;s own before taking them but it is driving me mad so i think i wil start them tomorrow. Will let you know if it shifts it. I got a telling off for using cotton buds too :o.

I got the flu jab while I was there - my advice is definitely get it ladies - cos i work at the NHS I'm privvy to all the inside horror stories and believe me when I say that swine flu is on the rise - especially amongst PG ladies. :(

Lily outgrew a crib in 10wks, so i imagine she would of outgrew a moses basket quicker.

For daytime naps she slept in her rocker chair laid flat. Now she sleeps on the sofa lol.
  • Someone is posting vile pictures on the support your troops page on FB. Not sure if they have been taken down yet as I blocked it today. They aren't pretty and are auto added to news feeds if any of you or your friends are supporters. So... keep an eye on your pages luvvies as they aren't pretty and I wouldn't want kids seeing them inadvertantly.

    Blantantly disrespectful!

I wanted to add myself to the list but I can't repost the list because I'm not allowed to do links yet.

Would anyone be kind enough to add me with a EDD of 20th July 2011?

    Hope you're all well. :)

she gave me 3 nice clear pictures also.

re moses baskets, my DD and DS grew far too long for theirs within 8 weeks too. They ended up in their cotbeds really early. Ive got another one for this baby though as we have no room in our bedroom for the first couple of months. I got it free off Freegle. I was going to buy a new mattress but the girl wasnt a smoker and it was waterproof, so it will be fine with new sheets.

During the day I tended to go out a lot of walks in the afternoon, so they both slept in the carrycot. But they would fall asleep in their bouncy chair (flat vibrating style one) or on me or on the couch next to me.
I tried to get them to sleep in their cot really early on during the day so they got used to it and in their own room. I highly recommend black out blinds and black out curtains. I would then attach the monitor to me or have it turned up so I could get on with things.

Another thing that I was told by my mum and highly recommend is dont tip toe around the baby. Get on with the hoovering and having the washing machine on etc. That way they get used to the noise and sleep through. My DS loved the 'whitenoise' and would go to sleep instantly with the sound of the hoover or my hairdryer lol.
