The other thing to remember with labour is that it is a slow and gradual process, you don't start off with full on contractions... You start with mild contractions that then get stronger and stronger... But because it's gradual, you carry on coping as they get stronger...

I'm another that doesn't want pethidine... I had just G&A and water with DD1, with DD2 I was doing really well with G&A but then went from 5cm to delivery in 45mins... The midwife should have really noticed I was in transition but she was too busy writing out her little forms and she offered me pethedine when I wasn't really in any position to make the decision... I had the injection and DD2 shot out onto the bed about 17mins later... It had no effects on her thankfully and as far as I'm aware it made no difference to me having tea and toast after the birth... I'm going to specify this time that I would like the midwife to assess my behaviour as an indicator that I'm about to deliver rather than offering me drugs...
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

  • Digital, Feel free to test out all the demos, it's the only way to work out if you like it or not. try out eveything, folding and putting them back up, try a car seat on them, rain cover, putting the pushchair to different settings. I managed to rule half of them out because i thought they were far to heavy or faffy. i would deffo check it fits the boot, one of the assistants will come out with you ( i did this with the car seat to make sure i could fit it correcty.

Does anyone have any links to a list of things that you need to have for a newborn? As first time parents we haven't got a clue. Some things are obvious but I dont want to miss anything important!

 i'm 5th! how did that happen! I think i've gone into major nesting mode i've emptied all the kichen cupboards and drawers in the aim to re-jig them (two bin bags of rubbish and out of date stuff:o -mostly condements ect) and cleaned the fridge out, oven is next. Still to pack my hopsital bag, babys is done though. The snow is quite blizzardy here so not attempted to go out. Congratulatons on the new arrivals :j.

hehe I am too in nesting mode having bought a house for rennovation in february (before we got pregnant) I have now become grand designer que drawing up plans, extreme ebay selling and hanging on for boxing day at b and q and ikea lol. Lots of painting and we finally have something that resembles a bathrom just the finishing touches need doing which is good as at one stage we had no bathroom and then no water lol :rotfl:

hope all bumps and ladys are ok x

hmmm one of those times in life that unfortunately you dont realise until you want/need it lol

for baby - obviously the usual - nappies, babygrows (with and without feet), vests, blankets, bedding for moses basket, carseat if have car, pram if needed, teatowels (for mopping up any spillages), bottles if needed, teets again if needed, hat for baby (keep head warm), and a lot of love and cuddles!!!

Tip if breastfeeding and find it difficult - not all people find it difficult but I did and I learnt that having a film/tv series to watch whilst I was doing it took my mind off it enough to relax and help it happen. Also a comfortable spot for breastfeeding is a must and it takes a while to find it. Obviously if not breastfeeding then still be comfy and make sure you have enought milk.

for mummy - breastpads, nipple sheilds if wanted, sweets or biscuits (sounds silly but for labour if its long and also for night times sometimes you need a little help for the nighttime feeds), enough milk for cups of tea, pleanty of disposable/old knickers as you may leak from your pads (another thing people forget to mention lol), maternity pads (and pleanty of em!), towels - to sleep on in case of leakages, credit on mobile in case, All numbers for midwifes for if you need to call them, some nice comfy pjs (if their nice enough you wont even need to get changed for visitors :rotfl:

Also make sure theres a fair bit of food in the fridge as you probably wont feel like getting up and going out straight away.

might also be a good idea to wwrite down the dates any bills need to be paid/set phone alarms etc as sometimes the days can all blur together and you dont want to miss anything and cause any unneccesary stress.

Hope this helps these are just my tips sure others have much more useful ones :o

ETA - Cotton Wool and a large bowl - easy for wiping new baby sensitive bum in the early days and also for washing when not confident to try a bath
    :)

    Hey All,
    1) I am seriously moving up the list now lol. I remember being right at the bottom.
    2) Consultant appointment today. Bit useless tbh then again other than IVF i have no issues. She said any questions i thought im jumping on this chance then and asked to hear the heartbeat again. Poor hubby had not heard it yet. Took a little while again to find but got it in the end. So we have now both heard it and baby is definately sticking around after tuesdays scare.
Got to have an extra scan at 34weeks before my next consultant appointment. Again not sure why but hey more checking means more relaxed mummy.
3)Won a second hand cot bed on ebay for £60 :) Was not going to bid but pick up right near me lol. Will need a new matress obv but very excited. :)

sarahangel, I get days like that. I get all anxious and can't pinpoint it,it's just an underlying feeling. But these days the good days are getting more frequent. Hope you feel better soon.
How are you and hubby getting on? (tell me to mind my own business if you want)
