Definitely ring round and get some more quotes as the prices can vary from place to place so much. I hope you manage to get it sorted quickly and as cheaply as possible. I keep looking at our boiler and wondering if it will make it through the winter as its over 20 years old now - am considering taking out some boiler insurance just in case :o
It is a real worry - our bolier is only 3 years old, you just don't expect these things to happen, I've been pondering over the homecare from british/scottish gas for a while before this happened, typical could have got it fixed for nothing! We do have heating and hot water at least while we are waiting for it to get fixed, we just have to keep turning the boiler on and off:o

ETA - haven't heard of a FFN test

its a test to see if you're gonna go into pre term labour or not. i got a positive at 22+1, which generally, a negative is more reliable than a positive, but because i have a 27weeker already im peeing my pants :/

Just had the boiler man round, and have been crying ever since, it's the circuit board - the boiler is only 3 years old, and it will be in excess of £500:eek::eek: I'm now about to phone and see if anyone can do it cheaper

What boiler have you got. We just had the exact same problem. Our boiler is only 2 years old and we just had the circuit board replaced by Potterton for £330 inc VAT which also includes 1 year cover for future breakdowns. I think we could have had it done cheaper but every boiler man we spoke to couldn't guarantee that replacing the circuit board would solve the problem so they all told us to go to Potterton direct as at least the charge is one off and they will replace all parts until fixed.

We have a Worcester, that's not a bad price. I can get the part for between £170 and £200 incl VAT, hoping to see if we can get someone to fit it. Hubby was speaking to a guy from his work who's sons friend is a 4th year apprentice plumber. FIngers crossed anyway.
On a better note, I sold a few things on ebay today for just over £100 and hubby has sold a welder for £200, and I'm just about to phone an old credit card to reclaim £17! that I overpaid ages ago! That has made my day a bit better, and I think hubby will have some work tomorrow too :D Now bubs just needs to make an appearance!

Thanks fairyshazza. I'm just outside Oxford so easy for me to get in. However I don't really like shopping! So I haven't been in the westgate centre for ages. Will have to investigate!

Waiting out in the cold for the bus. I thought I hadn't missed it because there were other people waiting but then they all got on a different bus. Oh well, only 14 min to the next one now!

Has anyone here done a FFN test?

Yes, I did. It was offered as part of a clinical trial going on at my hospital. They take a swab from your cervix. I then had to wait 20 mins for the results which were negative. A negative result means you are 99% certain not to go into labour in the following 3 weeks, after that its anyone's guess - unless of course they repeat the test. It's not common to be offered it (I guess because of cost and also that it can only predict 3 weeks ahead). I had it at 22 weeks - so it meant I knew ahead of time I would in all likelihood reach the viability point.

All seems so long ago, I had my 34 week check today, all was hunky-dory with both me and baby. No more surgery visits, all remaining appointments will be home visits and next one is my favourite midwife who will be bringing the home birthing kit with her - how real does that make things!!!
