A coherent and intelligent response, which might be made useful if for the benefit of those of us without a crystal ball, you would expand upon it.

Crystal balls are for seeing the future... we are talking about the present. :D

    Expansion, as requested....
Oh and for the benefit of doubt, and to pre-empt any retards who start moaning about road tax, cyclists have a right in law to be on the road. Motorists do not.

They have as much right as a cyclist... more in the case of a motorway.
Roads are paid for from council tax.

Some roads are. Trunk roads and motorways are funded from general taxation and maintained by the Highways Agency.
Nobody in this country pays road tax, we pay VED, and VED is banded according to co2 output.

Some VED is banded by CO2 output. Owners of older, or specialist, vehicles pay a fixed rate, or nothing at all.
Bicycles emit no co2, so do not pay VED.

Bicycles emit no CO2, but their means of propulsion does. Some CO2 emitting motorised vehicles are, like bicycles, also not liable for VED, so your logic is flawed.

Face it folks, those who hate cyclists, hate them because they're "queue jumpers". You hate being sat in traffic when they tootle on past unhindered, why should they be able to "jump the queue"!?!?
When a bus comes down the bus and cycle lane, do you moan at the bus for overtaking the traffic? no of course you don't! But when the bus is closely followed by a cyclist, you scream obscenities like there's no tomorrow!!

Because they don't have the anonymity or look as intimidating as a motorcyclist with all the leather gear and full face helmet, you believe you have the right to treat them like dirt!

It's big theory, nothing more nothing less..... Your bigger, they're smaller, therefore you have the right to invade their space as much as you see fit!

    Err no.

I just want them to follow the same rules that I have to. I don't see why I should do an emergency stop to give way to them when they run a red light, especially when I have been waiting patiently for a green light.

I don't see why they can just jump off the pavement at random into the road at will in front of me and then blame me with their high and mighty looks.

Nothing to do with size. If anything cyclists have more of a chip on their shoulders than most motorists or else they would have more respect.

You've forgotten this one, which cyclists appear not to understand:

We should also be allowed, no, obliged, to run over cyclists who refuse to use lights and insist on wearing camouflage when it is dusk or dark. (Admittedly, these are usually the 'extremely fat bloke wobbling around on a mountain bike' or 'feral child' type)

Actually, it would be far more sensible to forget about lights on bikes altogether (because 99% of cyclists already have) and make the wearing of high-viz waistcoats compulsory.

They cost virtually nothing (£2 typically) and will survive a year's worth of washing quite easily.

Construction workers wear them to make themselves VISIBLE. Cyclists should be forced to as well.

THIS is a black jacket without any high visibility element. If you insist on cycling whilst wearing one and not using lights then you are quite likely to end up rather intimate with my bonnet.

Yeah I agree. He should've run the !!!!!!! over and avoided any chance of a pile-up!

What would you suggest he did? He was already 15mph under the speed limit.

You said he was forced to make an emergency stop. Are you now retracting that statement?
  • I am not saying that bike users should not be allowed on the road. In many situations it is the perfect form of transport but they should be subject to passing a test, showing knowledge of the highway code and pay for some form of insurance and road tax.

I took a driving test and passed. And an IAM course, and passed. I have insurance.

I am not legally required to pay road tax, and neither are you, nobody pays road tax. Even if I was required to pay road tax, I would pay nothing, since VED is based on emissions.
  • They have as much right as a cyclist... more in the case of a motorway.

Motorists have no right whatsoever to use any public roads in this country. None.
Some roads are. Trunk roads and motorways are funded from general taxation and maintained by the Highways Agency.

I pay income tax. As taxpayers, almost all cyclists do.
Bicycles emit no CO2, but their means of propulsion does. Some CO2 emitting motorised vehicles are, like bicycles, also not liable for VED, so your logic is flawed.

Congratulations, you managed to miss the point by about 5 miles. My logic is that the lowest co2 emitting vehicles pay no VED. Some are suggesting that cyclists, which emit even less co2, pay more.

I'm constantly amazed at the ignorance of people on this point. Education and general knowledge in this country really is !!!! poor.

Next time I see one of those little Diesels that pay no VED, i'm going to run them off the road and shout "GET SOME F*CKING ROAD TAX!!!!"
