    I wish the cyclists in Oxford would actually use the cycle lanes along Botley Road, rather than ignore them and carry on along the road wobbling along with no lights on, in front of buses, lorries and cars. I also wish that they wouldn't shout at pedestrians who are crossing at a Green Man, because they don't want to stop at the red traffic lights.

    I wish that the drivers in a rush would give me more than 2inches of passing space when I cycle, and would understand that I'm cycling down the right hand side of the lane because I'm signaling to turn right (much harder to do from the left of the lane)

    I've done cycling, driving and walking, and the rudest people were usually the cyclists to me as a pedestrian. Often head down ignoring crossings, red lights, pedestrianised areas, dinging their bell for me to leap out of the way instantly. To where I'm not sure on some occasions, as it's a no cycling area by the canal lock. :p
    I quite agree, however having a look at that road on google maps the cycle lanes which are just painted on the road are far too narrow and I would probably cycle outside them. They almost certainly do not meet DfT guidelines. The ones which are part of the pavement though there's nothing wrong with, why would you not use them? Just to be awkward? Its far safer on the pavement lane thing than the road.

    I would just be happy if cyclists would USE the dedicated cycle lanes, especially the very wide one on the Pyestock road (near Farnborough)

    A lot of money was spent to ensure that they had a safe pathway to use, completely separated from a very busy 60mph road - alas large numbers of them insist on cycling all over the road - expecting motorised vehicles to be able to avoid their erratic course

    One even went round the roundabout the wrong way rather than use the designated cycle lane and cycle crossing place - I was turning left and the idiot cut right straight across in front of me!!!

    On my way to work I drive down a road which is just wide enough for cars to pass comfortably & its fairly busy with cars in both directions.

    It has a wide cycle lane/pavement quite separate from the road, you have to go over a grass strip to get to it.

    Virtually no pedestrians ever on it.

    Do cyclists use it

    :mad::mad:

    No, they hold up cars on the road as its too narrow to pass without going over the white line.

    Why:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

    Can I drive down their empty cycle lane:mad::mad::mad::mad:

    I cycle through London, and I do jump red lights if I can see the other sides of the junction is on red/pedestrian light is on green. However, if there is a pedestrian on/near the crossing I'll slow and let them cross, most will jump back expecting me to go straight at them.

    I also cycle along a single lane cycle path separated from the footpath and road. A few weeks back, I came up behind a woman walking down the middle of it. Did she move? Did she toffee.

    I would be more likely to aim a boot at your bike:);)

    Is it double white lines down the middle of said road? If so you can still cross them if the cyclist is doing <10mph. That is bloody selfish though.

    Viking, that is hilarious, I would have loved to have seen that!

    Ginner, HGVs are a main reason for ASLs, so cyclists can get in front of them safely at the lights. But if they're moving AT ALL anywhere near a junction you'd be stupid to undertake on a bike.

    I seem to have a completely illogical effect on pedestrians at crossings. If my light is red, and theirs has just gone green to cross, and I'm approaching the white stop line, they usually seem to look at me questioningly and hesitate to cross the road, expecting me to go through the red. If my light's green however, I seem to be invisible. This is most noticeable when its busy outside the Arndale Centre, although here cars have the same problem.

    No they are not "no crossing over" lines, but you often have to trail a cyclist at 8mph (on a 40mph road) until you can get a break in the oncoming traffic.

    It really mystifies me why they do it.

    The cycle path is safe (raised up part of the pavement) wide & almost always empty.

    The car at the head of the queue was clearly driving dangerously, and its driver does not deserve a licence.

    Yeah I agree. He should've run the !!!!!!! over and avoided any chance of a pile-up!

    What would you suggest he did? He was already 15mph under the speed limit.

    You aim a kick at someone who poses no threat to you? Nice.

    I wholeheartedly agree with this sentiment.

    May I take this opportunity to thank the meathead who was hit by a cyclist today on Shaftesbury Avenue. The cyclist (in his super lycra matching gear if that is relevant) was too lazy to unclip and stop. He hit said meathead who had the right to cross on a green man. Mr meathead flipped and promptly grabbed the guys bike and stamped on it several timesbefore walking off. :eek:

    Mr Meathead. If the Police ask - I saw nothing. :p

    I like that.
    Our funniest local one was a cyclist who insisted on cycling down a towpath, and decided to cycle over the fishing rods blocking his way, rather than get off. The fishermen chased him in their van, caught him a few bridges down, gave him some "friendly advice", and threw his bike in the canal.

    What on earth would possess someone to do that?!

    Erm, if you call a cyclist illegally heading straight for you as a pedestrian no threat...
