The speeds involved are besides the point. Car drivers have a large, superstructure with crumple zones around them, cyclists have virtually nothing.

But saying as a fair number of posters objected to slowing down anyway, does it matter if you're a cyclist or pedestrian?

Oh look, another cyclists vs motorists thread.

Here are the facts - there are retards who drive cars, and there are retards who ride bicycles. Funnily enough there are also retards who walk around on the pavement, and there are retards who use buses.

Lets have a bit of consideration, eh? Oh and for the benefit of doubt, and to pre-empt any retards who start moaning about road tax, cyclists have a right in law to be on the road. Motorists do not. Roads are paid for from council tax. Nobody in this country pays road tax, we pay VED, and VED is banded according to co2 output. Bicycles emit no co2, so do not pay VED.

My historic vehicle isn't banded by the co2, I pay the same VED as a cyclist.

Its a bit more worrying that there are retards driving buses though isn't it? IMO these are the only category of retards who should simply not exist.

I wholeheartedly agree with the consideration bit.... but the rest of it is just complete and utter codswallop. :rotfl:

That's because in a 15mph crash between a car and a cycle, the cyclist is likely to end up with a few broken bones and could very possibly die.
Equally, in a 15mph crash between a cyclist and a pedestrian, the pedestrian is the one who will come off worst and, in some cases, die. Tell that to the many inconsiderate and dangerous cyclists who refuse to stop for red lights.

(My daily commute involves crossing a number of roads in central London - always at controlled crossings, and waiting for the green light. I have lost count of the number of near misses that I have had with cyclists who go through red lights.)

The problem is that in principle I really do respect bicycles and their users, they pollute less, make less noise, take up less space and their riders are very fit. But they are not safely compatible with the majority of modern commuting routes.

We're concentrating on cyclists in the city and they do present a problem, but out on the open roads they are a menace. I was driving behind a queue of traffic on a small A/B road at around 45mph whilst ascending a bendy hill. Fortunately we'd all kept a reasonable distance because the lead car had to perform an emergency stop, as did the rest of the tail.

Why? Well because some cyclist with no sense of self preservation other than a helmet and some skin tight shorts was wobbling around in the middle of the road at about 57mph below the speed limit.

There's no other word for it than dangerous (um cycling) and if the car in front had hit him, they might have someone's life on their conscience for no good reason.

Some cyclists are little better than those morons who jump level crossings...

Oh come on! What powers a bicycle? A human being. And what emissions do human beings produce...? Oh yes, C02 and plenty of it when one is puffing along.

In fact, as a loose estimation, a cyclist will produce around 20g/km C02. So not totally green... :)

I cycle through London, and I do jump red lights if I can see the other sides of the junction is on red/pedestrian light is on green. However, if there is a pedestrian on/near the crossing I'll slow and let them cross, most will jump back expecting me to go straight at them.

I also cycle along a single lane cycle path separated from the footpath and road. A few weeks back, I came up behind a woman walking down the middle of it. Did she move? Did she toffee.

That's a criminal offence. The rules apply to all road users. What would you say if you jumped a red light and then got run over?
