THIS:
Cycle_Lane.jpg

is a CYCLE lane!
Not only that, but as it is bordered by a SOLID white line that means NO ONE else may be in it but cyclists. That means no buses, taxis or cars.

and THIS:
AdvStopLine.jpg

is an Advance Stop Line (ASL). It is also for CYCLISTS only. Cars, taxis and probably the worst culprit, buses may NOT stop in it at a red light. That includes edging forward when you know the light's about to go green.
When the light goes green the aforementioned vehicles should let cyclists move off BEFORE crossing the first white line. Especially if you're a car turning left, you must bloody well wait for me the cyclist to move off and not decide to try and left hook me.

THIS:
Cycle+lane.jpg

is an advisory cycle lane as it is bordered by a broken white line. Non bicycles should not enter this UNLESS absolutely necessary.
This does NOT mean you can drift into it as you cut the corner.
It does NOT mean you can pull out from a sideroad into stationary traffic and block the cycle lane.
Unfortunately you may park on this type of cycle lane, but you MAY NOT double park across it when the lane has parking spaces on one side and the roadway on the other, that INCLUDES minicab drivers, and you are NOT exempt if you're driving an expensive car with your hazard lights on.

THIS:
CycleLane-TavistockPlace-credit_D1v1d_372.jpg

is also a CYCLE lane only, segregated from the pavement. Pedestrians should NOT just aimlessly wander into it without looking. In fact they should not be in it at all, ever. This includes such cycle lanes that are segregated from the footpath by just a white line, not a kerb.
For that matter, pedestrians should also not just wander without looking into the cycle lane at the side of a road as they cross the rest of the road.
If traffic is queuing up the road and is stationary, but there is a cycle lane up the side, you may NOT just wander across without looking. I actually collided with a pedestrian (quite slowly!) who did just that a few weeks ago, despite my fluorescent vest, flashing lights and the strange symbols resembling bicycles painted on the road.

EDIT: And for the 70% of cyclists who go past me at red lights, luckylucky beat me to it:

THIS is a red light. All road users are required to stop when they see it. (even cyclists)

Thank you.
I think that is all.

I quite agree. You do indeed appear to be quite up to date with your highway code, shame few other cyclists are.

This one, for instance, stumps many a pedal powered ponce:

EDIT: Beaten to it. There's nothing like a joke so obvious two people crack it simultaneously.

I had just THIS SECOND come back on to say that! Knew there was something I'd forgotten.

you also forgot to add about the cyclist who at a red light goes up on the path to carry on their journey/cut corners.

There is one thing I'd have to add though, there's no road user more unforgiving than a cyclist.

Just to add, other than motorways and certain trunk roads, pedestrians can be on any part of a highway, byway, bridleway or footpath and have just as much right to be there as cyclists, and more right to be there than motor vehicles.

That's because in a 15mph crash between a car and a cycle, the cyclist is likely to end up with a few broken bones and could very possibly die. The car driver is likely to have a bit of scratched paint and possibly a dented panel. So when cars pull out from side roads almost sending a cyclist over the bonnet, they tend to get a significantly more animated response than if they'd pulled out on a car.

Bit of a wierd analogy, and I'm not sure if it works, but it's like the difference between two people playing Russian Roulette one with a child's Spud Gun and the other with a loaded Magnum 45. They are both playing the same game, but for one party the potential outcome is far more serious.

Trouble is, its not a joke

Red light mean very little to a lot of cyclists esp. in London

And there seems to be an increase of car drivers too who will ignore

Only solution will be those tyre shredders that rise out of the road when the lights are red !!

Funny coincidence, but I have just witnessed a cyclist shouting at a policeman for, from what I heard, bad driving in some capacity. I heard something like 'let cyclist move off first' so I guess its something to do with an ASL. Doesn't surprise me. What hope is there for the rest of us if the police can't drive.
