Student Protest/Riots

After watching the news coverage of the Student protests/riot yesterday I personally think that any cost related to it, ie Police cost, cleaning up cost etc, should be deducted from next years budget for Universities.
I know this is extreme but watching some of the pictures it was very disturbing.
Also anyone caught on film causing damage should be banned from ever attending university and if they are already there they should be thrown out straight away.

Indeed, punish people who most likely have had nothing to do with it great idea.
I'm not sure why you think they should be banned/thrown out of uni?
I'd also hazard a guess that some of the people who were causing the trouble have nothing to do with unis and just like strife.0 -

Punish thousands of students at hundreds of universities/colleges for the actions of a few? That's an outrageous suggestion IMO."Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?" (Douglas Adams)0 -
Oh dear! You can't just sanction people because you/others disagree with their views. Were the suffragettes thugs too for wanting to vote? If everyone had your attitude, nothing would ever change and governments could do what ever they wanted. The government is making higher education unaffordable for the majority of people in this country so of course people have the right to be angry.0

The reason I think they should be thrown out of Uni if they were causing damage etc is because it was a blatant criminal act. I'm not on about throwing out the people who just took part in the protest.
Maybe I went too far with deducting the cost from the Uni budgets but anyone convicted should have to cover the cost in the form of fines and damages. There has to be some sort of deterrent to stop people stepping over the line from peaceful protest to down right thuggery and destruction. If you find you are drinking too much give this number a call. 0845 769 75550 -

Well would you pay £9000 for 120 hours of substandard teaching (if the teacher turns up), library membership and an e-mail address? Just because something doesn't impact personally upon you, that doesn't mean that it's not important and people shouldn't oppose it.0 -
I oppose a lot of things but I wouldn't go round and smash someones offices up set fire to things in their front garden and attack the police.
If the teaching is substandard then go to a Uni with decent teaching, just like I wouldn't go to a substandard shop. Research where you are going first and you should find out if the teaching is any good.If you find you are drinking too much give this number a call. 0845 769 75550 -
History students at the University of Bristol get 6 hours of teaching a week, an e-mail address and a library card for their tuition fees. They are in the majority of Arts/Humanities based courses (English, History, Languages etc.) not the minority. Do you really think £9000 is a justifiable and fair price?0

its a bit extreme to tarnish them with the same brush whe it was just a few who caused the damage
yes the ones who caused the damaged should be brought before the courts and charged apropriately0 -

You obviously have no idea what the money helps to pay for, or how much higher education costs. Also, as far as I am aware the figure for fees is £6,000. The £9,000 refers to 'exceptional circumstances', not the general figure.
Higher education is all about individual learning, and using the resources provided to educate yourself, to develop your own opinions on things. It is not about spoon-feeding.
As for the riots, it completely ruined their 'cause'. Violence and criminal damages aren't the way to get your point of view heard.0 -

surely the money is used to pay for the upkeep of the uni, wages for the staff plus over costs0
