Are loans being abolished then? I always thought everyone was entitled to go to university and not have to pay the fees upfront but instead can take out a student loan.

So please explain, how will people not be able to afford to go?

A lot of students are campaigning because the "worse off", can't afford to. When infact, this has much truth as aliens existing.

    - LOANS WILL STILL EXIST.
    - GRANTS WILL GO TO THOSE WORSE OFF.
    - ANYONE WHO HAS THE INTELLIGENCE TO WORK THIS OUT WILL STILL GO TO UNIVERSITY EVEN IF THEY COME FROM A LOWER INCOME BACKGROUND.

The protest was a load of crap, and I hope NUS get fined heavily.

:T:T:T Absolutly agree. I had very little simpathy before yesterdays riot but after seeing the pictures on the news of the damage caused and the comments of some students about how these actions were justified my very little simpathy has turned to none.

If people want to go to university they will have to pay the cost associated with it. As Lokolo said there are student loans available to help fund this which have a resonable intrest rate and do not have to be paid back until people are earning 21 grand or more.

If people don't want to come out of uni with debt and find the terms of student loans unfair then don't go.
University shouldn't be a free ride and maybe if the cost involved are higher it will stop some students doing pointless degrees in pointless subjects ie is acient greek really going to benefit you when looking for a job in the uk?
    Nothing to report:p

Well please enlighten me on who decides to pay the Vice-chancellors of UK Universities £150,000+ (and thats only what we know about.) Certainly not the public. They should have their pay cut before the already extortionate fees are double/tripled.

i dont know the ins and outs of it all but maybe you could research it and get back to us with the findings

I didnt get the chance to go to uni, my mates are...why should i pay.. its not fair.

You got the same chance as every other British citizen, you chose not to take the opportunity to go to university.

I didnt get the mouth breathing chav sluts of the UK pregnant yet i pay for them to drag up their vile spawn...

I didnt stick a needle in the junkies arm but i pay for their methadone...

I didnt star a war in Afghanistan, but i am paying for the bombs and bullets...

I didnt cause the banking crisis in the UK but i am facing increased taxes for less public services...

So... funding the above OR funding young, motivated kids who have aspirations to be engineers, scientists, doctors, solicitors, architects, economists etc... I know where i would choose to put the money.
Graduates already pay for their education, we pay income tax as a proportion of our salary.. the more you earn the more you pay...

The Tories are doing what the Tories do ... looking after the wealthy, i am just waiting for the workhouses to be re-opened..

I think we need more displays of our outrage if civil disobedience makes the point then... though i dont condone violent behavior or the destructive behavior exhibited at Millbank, but i dont think for a moment that they rioters were anything to do with the legitimate protest... they were the rent a mob crew that turn up at many of these do's and kick off...

we are being bum raped by Cameron and his crew and it appears most of you are willing to bend over, apply the KY and take it like his prison wife...

These monkeys work for us... i think we forget that...

Learn to use a spell checker before you put your 2 cents in. It's sympathy not simpathy. Have you even tried to study Ancient Greek? I can assure you, you need to be very intelligent to study it and have a good command of the English language (something you clearly don't have.) The only places you can study it are at Oxford, Cambridge, Durham etc. which you can only dream about getting your foot in the door. I do agree that degrees like Circus Studies, Lady Gaga and golf need to be justified in the current economic climate, but I can assure you that most UK students are NOT doing these courses. The only reason you hear about them in the media is because they are extremely rare. A few pointless courses should not justify making everyone else who has spent years trying to get into University to do courses in long-standing and well-respected subjects suffer unnecessarily. You are an embarrassment to the British education system with your narrow and unsupported views.

A quick 30 second UCAS course search for ancient greek:

Bristol, Cambridge, Durham, Edinburgh, Exeter, Glasgow, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle, Oxford, Royal Holloway, Sheffield, St. Andrews, UCL
Think before you post, you ignorant twit. Do those Universities look like the places dishing out the 'useless degrees' you complain about? If Ancient Greek is so useless, then surely you will have no problems studying it yourself?

WOW .. OK ... i recant, with such a poignant, well reasoned argument put forward how can i not, you Sir are an intellectual tour de force...

you are right spending public money on work-shy baby machines, drug addicts, taking young offenders off to disney land or buying convicts xboxes is the right way to do things..

why do we need doctors and teachers anyway, we can ship then in from abroad, you can blame the fact that the work-shy are sat in wetherspoons all day drinking giros on the immigrants then.

Thing is were all complaining about the fees and yeah on paper we all owe thousands, but unless you become a high flyer it will never get paid off. if you don't believe me, use this link to check it:

    http://www.studentfinance.direct.gov.uk/portal/page?_pageid=153,4680106&_dad=portal&_schema=PORTAL

I do think there are some pretty useless degrees, like there was one about David Beckham a while back. Now while he is a brillant footballer, seriously if I was an employer and someone came to me with a degree about David Beckham I wouldn't know where to look. A degree in my eyes is one that you use, and I don't think a lot of us can say we use it totally.

Plus guys, remember people are allowed their own opinion about how useful certain degrees are. They may be offered at elite universities, but it would be interesting to see what the job prospects are of students that study the course from one of the universities. There is a site that shows where their students go but I can't find it, but this makes interesting reading:

Excellent. I could have put that point to a workmate with his university education and got a similar response. Thank you for confirming he's not the only one.
It must be par for the course.

IMO - anyone who takes the actions of a small minority of these demonstrators (a mere fraction of 1% of the 50,000 present) as being reflective of the student body as a whole, needs to be a little less narrow-minded.

It's rather like another European saying that they hate all Brits based solely of the reputation of visiting British football hooligans! It's a farcical comment!
