:rotfl:I don't think she thought for one second that there would be a 2 minute silence at the DWP and she probably thought nothing of 11am either (have to admit I didn't think of either).Guess she wouldn't have been so peeved if the message had instantly said they were observing a silence so to call back later or just have the phones engaged rather than go through the normal message they play and then say it lol.I can quite picture the look on her face actually!!!
Wonder how many people making calls yesterday, especially important ones, looked at the clock to check the exact time first....
I was on a pretty important call at work, when the fire alarm was sounded to mark 11, I said to him "theres the alarm to mark 11, will call you back" & put the phone down.0 -

I was at home so I observed the silence, if I had been at work as I was last year I wouldn't have been able to0

The year that the Silence is deemed to be about marking a determination that "There will be No More War" (of any description - but obviously most strongly ones that are absolutely WRONG whatever way one looks at it - eg Afghanistan, Iraq, etc)
- then I will observe the Silence (and be upset if others dont do so too).
Meanwhile - I literally do not understand what it is about - as it seems to be commemorating war and having regard for those who fought in them:eek:.
I suspect that means that I will be spending the rest of my life deliberately NOT observing the silence - but also deliberately not disrupting anyone else (just in case they are already doing so as a means of protesting against ANY wars ANYwhere ANYtime).
The way the Silence comes over now is that it seems like a pro War gesture to observe it - hence I personally obviously cant do so - as I abhor wars (and all the excuses used to justify them).0 -
We were going to pull up a live TV feed from the cenotaph for the classroom projector, but the technology wouldn't play (would have helped if I'd had the idea rather earlier than 10.55) and I think we did 2.5 minutes at 10.59 as didn't have an accurate clock.
But the thought was there.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -

So you would expect a surgeon to put down scalple to observe the silence?
As humans were capable of multitasking (thinking and observing a silence does not mean you have to stand there and ignore everything else. You have also had 65 years to remember and pay respects to fallen hero's. Thes brave men fight for our freedom and fight so we can live our lives the way we do. The soldiers dont stop firing to remember their fallen family. They are constantly aware of them.
So if you really want to show your respect do it by honoring and remembering them all of the time not just 2 minutes out of the 525948 available to you every year!
People won't die at the supermarket bakery if they have to wait an extra 2 minutes to get their bread sliced/get their cream cakes, and think beyond their selfish existance. What a silly comparison you are making to a surgeon.0
