Two Minute Silence Rant

I think you should lobotomise yourself with an ice pick. But we don't always get what we want.
I guess, in your grand scheme of things, I am quite fortunate that I was being paid to put on my best uniform and be in charge of my local parade. (the equivalent of a days pay went in the RBL tin though.)
It really is beggers belief that people will moan about having to take a whole two minutes out of their petty boring lives to honour those who gave everything so future generations would have something. Even if you don't agree with it sit in the corner and let those who do, do so in peace.
Funniest thing ive heard in a long time hehe:beer:I love my New Year's day baby girl Olivia xx:happyhearxx0 -
We need to honour all the servicemen? Even those who fought in illegal wars? Even those who ordered the bombing of "soft" targets such as hospitals and civilian camps? Even those who fired shells containing depleted uranium or planted cluster bombs which have a 90%+ chance of injuring innocent civilians? Even those who participated in illegal torture or assisted the US in removing suspects to countries where torture is not a criminal offence?
Surely anyone can see that war just isn't a simple case of black/white or right/wrong. It doesn't make sense to honour ALL servicemen and women.
Yes all servicemen and womenI love my New Year's day baby girl Olivia xx:happyhearxx0 -
As I said, there had been an announcement before and just before the silence. People don't read signs, that's why you get people standing in front of the till on a sunday at 10:45 facing the sign saying "Tills will open at 11" and they try to complain about nobody manning the till.
What gives the person a right to have a go at my DM for observing the silence? The person KNEW it was being observed because they certainly weren't deaf.
Like I said, it wasn't about that person NOT observing the silence, it was their attempt to force us not to because they feel they're too important to wait 2 minutes.one of the famous 50 -

Again your forgetting that not everyone obseres the silence including those who have lost loved ones in any war and more pertinantly the latest wars we are in.
Exactly, the shop has a right to serve the customer, not a duty.It must be accepted as a principle that the rifle cannot replace the speed of the horse, the magnetism of the charge and the terror of cold steel.

Wow. I wonder how many honourable servicemen/women would turn in their graves to hear you speaking out in support of those who murdered innocent civilians in the name of tyranny.
Nobody in the armed forces would support the murder of innocent civilians, and if you believe that then you do not know much about the military.
Deaths of "civilians" in theatre are investigated by the service police, and if it is believed that a crime has taken place then charges will be brought. It must be accepted as a principle that the rifle cannot replace the speed of the horse, the magnetism of the charge and the terror of cold steel.

after the melodramatic comments so far with regard to being docked wages and disciplined for taking 2 minutes out of the working day this might actually make you want to hurt yourself....
The company I work for....very large company which everyone will be familiar with...closed all phone lines, yes ALL lines from 10:50am until 11:02, to allow us to assist the customers on the phone and leave us all free to observe the silence.
This was communicated to us that this would be happening for around a week before the date and we received reminder emails to let us know what was going to happen.
SUE THE COMPANY...12 minutes!!! holy cow...... thats almost all day.
Some people need to get over it and remember the big picture...what can you say you brought to the table for the good of the country? if you arent prepared to take action and take the risks then at least respect those who are willing to stand in our place, past, present and future.

Just would like to make the point again. If you were being rushed to hospital and the doctor said 'hold on a couple of minutes just having a moments silence' and you died you wouldnt be happy!!
