Buyer wants to pay by Pay Pal at Collection

On the other hand, that just stops them getting the protection they do get on Paypal items, such as against things not as described, and I'd never do that because I would be worried the seller was trying to scam me.Out of interest it could be worth asking for them to send it as a paypal gift, yes it won't protect against chargebacks but it will get round the INR dispute problem.
Eventually it boils down to trust, and if you can't trust the other person, then it may be better to use another site or means to sell altogether, rather than just putting you in situation where the buyer loses trust in the system as well."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

I do not propose for one moment that we tell every potential seller to stop offering collection, but i do think it important to at least ensure that sellers know the risks they undertake. We all have different levels of risks we are happy to take and that decision can only be made with a full understanding of exactly what those risks are.
I agree totally and I would hate anyone not to be aware of the risks. Local Pick Up is very very risky if the buyer pays with PayPal. You can lose all your money.
If people decide to take this risk. In my view only it is wise to take steps to protect themselves. Also in my own view only it is bad advise that there is no point doing anything to protect yourself.
If things go wrong in my view only I think it is bad advise you have no hope in a PayPal case. It is very uncommon and not the general rule but you can try to win (very unlikely if you did nothing to protect yourself) and if you lose PayPal's Office of Executive Escalations may refund if you complain. I neither want to give anyone false hopes nor do I want to deny that the possibility exists.
I agree a discussion of what to do if things go wrong is off-topic. The topic is can you protect yourself. I felt some discussion was in order to challenge the view there is no point doing anything. I am happy I have put across my views on the matter and feel it would not help a good thread discussing this in more detail.0
