Buyer wants to pay by Pay Pal at Collection
Comments

Here's a question, perhaps one of the legal eagles on here can answer, if someone uses paypal for a collection only item then does an INR claim, which ebay/paypal accept and reverese the payment, surely that makes ebay complicite in the fraud of the buyer, especially if you have gotten the buyer to sign for the item. Could you claim against ebay, or have the Old Bill knock on the doors of ebay?0

No because you have accepted the risk and paypal state quite clearly their service is not suitable for items that cannot be collected.
You have the choice to sell or not, I do not sell high end goods unless I cna post them. If you use ebay you abide by their rules.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. You have been forced to accept the risk, by the same company. It can't be said that you don't have to advertise on ebay either, as they happily allow you to have collection only items. They could be liable for having a system which makes the scam easy.0

For something like this I would list locally and on gumtree, you can insist on cash on collection that way.

surely that makes ebay complicite in the fraud of the buyer,
I have no idea however I have read claims on the web that people using your argument together with other arguments have gotten their money back from PayPal although specific details of cases were not provided.
Whether or not this is the case it will be very hard work and you still may get nothing.
My previous post in this thread hinted at how to improve any remote chances in this area.0 -
Agreed, which is what I would do. And if you warned me when listing the item I'm sure I and many other people wouldn't bother buying, given that you are basically treating them as a criminal. I don't think it's a good way of appealing to customers, quite honestly. Putting off a large number of potential buyers is probably not worth the potential scams you end up avoiding as well. You know you do have a choice of not handing over your fingerprints, simply buy from another vendor.
simples.
As far as the legal side of it goes, I think you would probably have a good case at least for a civil suit against the buyer. I don't think eBay would, however, be complicit (since they don't handle payment themselves but leave it to Paypal) and Paypal presumably have some sort of disclaimer in their terms which distance themselves from the behaviour of a third party."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

I think you are getting muddled between ebay and paypal. paypal state, quite specifically in several places on their website and when you take payment that it is NOT suitable for items that cannot be delivered and tracked online.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I failed to find one statement.
Do PayPal actually say this?
I would guess well over 90% of their transactions would by your statement be NOT suitable.
Google finds 9 uses of the word suitable on paypal none preceded by not.
I suspect they use different word like you may lose some types of disputes without tracking.0 -
as previous poster said , and i totally agree , the buyer wants to pay with his credit card , unless you will accept a credit card on collection he has to use paypal , simplesmy favourite food is spare ribs0
