Hi fellow Halifax claimants. Just want to encourage you all to keep the reclaiming game up. Have today received the money in my account for my claims from 2 accounts with the Halifax. Had letter on 15th saying they will repay my charges £1250 and £317 and that the money would be paid into my account within the next 14 WORKING days. Logged onto my account today and it had been paid in this morning. waaahaaaa.
So keep going guys, get YOUR money back.0 -

Stick to your timescales NOT theirs. They sent me that letter but replied within 14 days of acknowledging receipt of my claim. It was close to the bone though, think I had the letter on day 13.0 -
Hi
I've been going through the process of reclaiming six years charges from my Halifax current account. I sent the first letter asking for £401 including interest. They replied with an offer of £255. I wrote back declining and gave 14 days to refund in full before I issued court proceedings. The 14 days is up on Tuedsay or Wednesday, but yesterday I received a letter saying they would like to speak to me about my compalint but they haven't been able to contact me. They then ask me to call a number to discuss the situation with them further. I am nervous about phoning them as I don't want to be bullied into backing down and accepting a low offer. If I don't phone them can I still issue proceedings when the 14 days are up. Has anyone else had a similar situation? Not sure on the best course of action!
I was really nervous about speaking to them. Would much prefer to deal with people via writing, hate confrontational situations. I did telephone them though and they were lovely, really friendly and helpful.0 -
I've just registered on this site as I have a few questions about reclaiming my bank charges. This site has helped me LOADS in the process of reclaiming so far so, I figured you guys on here would be the best people to ask for help in the next step.
I have received my 6 years worth of bank charges (within the 40 days which surprised me after things I've read on here) and I have highlighted and sent copies of all the charges which I think were unfair to me.
I put in claims for late fees and over limit fees on my credit card. Am I allowed to reclaim both of these charges legally ??
On my current account I put in claims for what came up on my account as ''charges as notified'' Am I legally allowed to reclaim them also ??
I have now had a letter back from my credit card company saying that the charges were lawful and that the reason for this is because '' they were applied to my account as per my original agreement''
I am abit scared now of writing back with the next step of taking them to court as I am not 100% sure that I'm allowed to reclaim the above charges mentioned. Hence the also above question.
My current account provider has written back saying they will ''investigate my complaint'' and that they have 8 weeks to get back to me on it basically.
Is this correct ?? The letter has thrown me slightly as to what to do next.
As I said, I'm a little unsure of what to do now as I don't want to write to them threatening court if I have messed up and am trying to reclaim something I'm not entitled to.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks for all your help so far.Leccy0 -
My daughter has just received a refund of £123 from Halifax. I know compared to a lot of people that isn't a vast amount, but to a student it is. These charges were the result of going overdrawn by £3.25 so it was hardly a case of being (grossly) irresponsible, just the bank being greedy. Although it's taken three months it has been worth waiting for and if it hadn't been for the helpful posts on this site she wouldn't have done it. In the Halifax's favour, the people she has dealt with in her branch and on the phone have been helpful and understanding. Just a shame it had to go so far in the first place.0

Can you claim charges back on accounts that are closed with the Hailfax or is it only open accounts?
And was there ever a ruling on Mortgages. We have a mortgage and got into a bit of bother with the Halifax and some of the charges we got were horrendous0 -

HBOS told me the same - Answer another way to get more time, Just stick to the time scales set out on this site. Your time scales and not there'sThe letter has thrown me slightly as to what to do next.
As I said, I'm a little unsure of what to do now as I don't want to write to them threatening court if I have messed up and am trying to reclaim something I'm not entitled to.
They will try anything to stop you from claiming your OWN money back, ignore the scare tactics and concentrate on getting your own money back from them. Once again stick to the time scales.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Be strong and make sure you read plenty, all the info you ever need is on this site.
Hope that helps :money:If I have been helpful - Hit the Thanks button0 -

Fantastic. P.S. Very blond question who do you amek the cheque payable to and can it come from someone elses name. i.e. I am claiming for my other half cos he is too lazy but wants the money so loving wife agrees.
Is that ok. As long as expect all correspondence will come in his name.:T0
