  • I had a letter back quite quickly offering me a full and final goodwill settlement which I decided to accept but that was over a week ago, was hoping for some xmas cash, anyone know how long it takes them to credit your account once they receive your letter back?

Check the sticky post to see which charges you can claim, it makes no difference if the accounts are closed.

    Hi there,

I posted my first letter requesting my statements off to Halifax on 18th November.

Got a letter from them today saying they have received my request for information in relation to transaction and charges and they will reply within the next 40 days with the information I requested.

    Will keep you posted!

Dont take this advice as gospel as im by no means any expert, but in my opinion I would just file the claim through money gram as they are obviously dragging their heels for time. In that period you could have the matter closed by the courts.

If you have sent the Initial Approach and 14 days is up then send the Letter Before Action. If you have sent this and 14 days has passed then start the court claim.

    REMEMBER:

YOU are setting the timetable NOT them. You are NOT making a complaint, you demanding your charges back. If you have followed the timetable, IGNORE what the bank are saying and proceed.
  • Hi all what a good morning it is. :)

I posted a few pages earlier last week about claiming. It took me about three weeks to get a set of statements from the last three years, I got three sets at once!!!!

Well I actually tried my luck and called at first, made up a lot of fuss over the phone. Someone did actually say that I would get call back with an offer, this never happened. When I called up they had no record of the call. :(

I knew I would have to send a letter but chanced my arm as wanted the money asap as its Christmas soon. Well that was 8 days ago I called them, got round to typing a letter on Tuesday this week, posted it on Wednesday and today they gave me an offer of £1067 :) I have paid £1300 in the last three years and believe me I want it all back but I don't have enough pennies for Christmas, I don't want to string it out any longer than two weeks and I don't think it could go to court quick enough so I'm taking the money and running. ;)

    Amount Claimed: £1,300
    Amount Offered : £1,067

Time taken all in, 4 weeks to receive statements then two days after I posted letter got an offer.
  • I have had the misfortune to bank with the Halifax for all my 25 years;
About 5 years ago I increased my over draft to £2000 even though my salary only covers half of that amount, 5 years passed with over drawn charges (£35 a go) here & bounced DD fees (£30 a go) there which were all taken out of my wages when due until In Sept 06 The Halifax decided to call me up telling me I owe them £2000 right now. They said they would be swallowing all my wages to cover some of the balance and said I would have to negotiate for my cost of living (it was too late to get payroll to change my account- I can only wonder if they knew that!). They were saying my over draft had expired but having never had any word from them that it was ever due to expire in the whole 5 years leading up to this point I was a little confused as it was so abrupt and out of the blue, I have all of my hard copy statements dating back to 2000 and on none of them did it state that this was ever due to expire as they claimed. After being passed from Call centre to branch and back again a few times I finally got through to a lady in the customer service call centre (08457 203040- this call centre did palm me of to other departments a few times) who managed to extend my over draft until March- and low and behold this review date now shows on my statements.

I am so fed up as they have totally broken me down; I have my loan, Mortgage and credit card with them and in various forms have experienced similar un-nerving experiences with each account. Thankfully (and yet slightly saddening that it has got to this point) my parents have come though for me and are going to pay off my over draft, once this is cleared I am going to be sending my letter and demands for my fee reclaim (should be a hefty sum) to The Halifax, I have set up a new account elsewhere (no overdraft I might add!) and agreed an affordable way to payback my parents, it is just a shame that The Halifax aren’t so approachable and understanding.

As The Halifax like to do business in such a way I feel it is only polite to return the favor!!

I will be sending my claim letter to:
    The Halifax Plc
    Trinity Road
    Halifax
    HX1 2RG

If there is a better address to send the claim letter or if any one knows if there is a specific department I should address this to I would be most grateful for the knowledge.

    P.S
Thank you to every one who has posted on this site however small it has helped in more ways than you know.
  • recieved the statements within 40 days but only till 2004. Is this due to Halifax takeover?
