Reading the thread in a bit more details I noticed somebody (can't remember who) said that when he/she went into their bank the lady behind the counter said they could repay the first 3 charges immediately. Did I miss read this? And is this actually true?

I have a current account with Halifax and recently received a letter stating that they are to charge me £30 for going overdrawn.

My account was showing nearly £1700 in the account although these funds hadn't yet cleared because were credited by cheque. I had a standing order going into another Halifax account of £320 the day before my funds had cleared, and therefore the bank have told me I was overdrawn for this period.

Do I stand much chance of getting my money back if I were take this matter further?

I think the simple answer is yes. Of course you can thats what this section of the websites all about claiming back charges that are illigal i.e. Overdraft fees, over limit fees, S/O / DD fees.
  • Hi, It is a long and quite tiresome process, Just percive. I started my claim after reading up on the process on the consumer action group website. I started on July 23rd this year and today finally recieved full and final payment of all charges for the past 6 years. You have got to stick at it, it will be worth it in the long run. I got £856.50 cheque today. I shall be able to raise a glass to the consumer action group, Cheers.

    Good Luck, Happyolddog.
  • Claimed £243 from Halifax including interest, I have received a letter today offering £143. What do people reckon is it worth chasing it all or should I take the offer?

    Thanks

If you read the article, asking for a list of your charges is the first step :)

    HI everyone,

    Halifax
    Amount Claimed £1826.00
    Amount offered £1718.00

i would like to share my news I WON I WON, sent Halifax First and Second letter, reply to first letter was more or less get stuffed, sent second letter saying i would like the charges returned or i will take them to court, i waited a few days and received a letter standard letter saying sorry you are unhappy we will look into it in around 8 weeks - Received some great advice from this site and started to get the court papers sorted, i thought i would ring them once more and spoke to a bloke who said you have to give us 8 weeksto sort out your complaint i said its not a complaint i just want the illegal charges back, explained i was a single parent and that the money they were taken was my kids food money and that i hoped he enjoyed his xmas dinner as we would be having pie and mash for xmas while he tucked into a turkey dinner, he replied your not the only one in this position to which i replied are you not ashamed then that you are representing a bank that takes food from people, i continued to say look this conversation is obviously not going anywhere and that i would be taking them to court, i said i was sorry i had nothing against him as i did not know him but i had to do what was right - he replied thats up to you.

This morning two days after the telephone conversation i received a letter they offered me £1,718.00 the amount i wanted was £1826.00 so i will be accepting their offer letter of acceptance has now been sent to them.

My advice don't give up be strong and stand up for your rights.

    THANKS MARTIN AND ESPECIALLY REX_mUNDI

  • I am in the process of trying to reclaim 3174 from Halifax. I have received a letter saying that it is being dealt with by Customer Services and they will reply in due course. Is this delaying tactics and if so how long should I give them to respond before threatening court action?

Have you written them a letter, if so sis you give them a timescale on there. If not I would ring them up and ask them how long they expect to take for a reply, also tell them if the reply length is unsatisfactory then you will start court proceedings. Well thats what I would do anyway
