IA, I would really love to be a stay at home Mum, but there's just no way we could afford it. That's not knocking how you feel though, I would probably feel at bit the same if it actually came down to it. Look at it this way, you can spend some time watching your girls grow up, and then return to having a career when circumstances allow it.

I didn't start my 'career' (if you can call it that) until I was 24 (staggered blindly from rubbish job to rubbish job till then), and have fitted in having a baby or two since then too, so there's nothing to say you have to be a housewife forever, or that you will get left behind on the career ladder.

    my dress survived:j :j :j :j :j :j :j :j :j :j :j :j :j :j :j :j :j :j :j :j :j :j :j :j :j :j :j
most of the stains came out. how should i dry it? i don't want to hang it on the line, and i'm wary of tumble-drying it. at the moment i've just hung it up on the curtain rail
:T What's your reason for not wanting it on the line? It's where I put mine, just be careful where you put the pegs cos of marks. I did get bird poo  on mine though, fortunately only a little bit which sponged off. Wasn't sure if I dared risk a 2nd time in WM lol.

IA- I've mainly been at home last 7.5 years. I've had (in total) 2 years of working p/t in that time, weekends, evenings, lunch times. What has helped me in last couple of years is going to college. I needed to because otherwise I could never have gone back to the type of job I used to do before (admin) as technology has changed so much in the years I've taken out to have kids. Here are some suggestions for you, I started out doing WP at my local womens centre (YWCA) mine has loads of courses and some aimed at young mums (16-24) there was a free creche provided, so you could look into doing something there or even see if you are able to volunteer your services in the creche and have your children there too. Or what about the mums and tots you used to go to, ask if they need any volunteers and you can take both girls along.

From working to being a sahm takes a little getting used to. Give yourself time to start enjoying it believe me you will! (especially when summer gets here proper:D ). For now just enjoy this time looking after your own, because when they are both at school, things change again and maybe you could then work part time. Don't give yourself the stress of working full time and rearing a family, its not worth it.

Well here I am sat on my tod. The girls are in bed, Ste's gone to his mate's parents house for stories for his best man's speech and my only company is American idol... mooooooann.
I have had a chance to go rooting through my 'bills' file and shredded about 15 thousand tax credits award notices and 16 million random bits of paper that were in there that we REALLY didn't need. The file was literally full to bursting and I have to have a seperate one for debt stuff. lol. The bills file won't even close!

I did manage to have a look through my wage slips which I picked up today and have worked out that so far I have had 20 weeks worth of maternity pay, I'm expecting another 4 on thursday which will leave 2 for the 10th June which will come in handy. That's if my boss doesn't find some excuse to not pay me...

I called TC today and told them I'm no longer in work. Apparently it won't change anything though as I've already given them my estimated income for this year.

Am having a look for some evening jobs as I'm worried about how tight things are going to be once my mat pay is up. Spotted one which I might look into working in WIlkinsons  15 hrs a week at £5.35. Entitledto.co.uk said we'd get £89 a week tc if I got that job so that would be a bit easier for us... will see what happens though.

I didn't start my career until I was 28. Got my degree at 22 and proceeded to work behind a bar for the next 6 years while childminding during the day. I only finally applied on a PGCE course (what I had always wanted to do) when a child I was minding deliberately pooed all over my floor and smeared it everywhere! I decided the fear of being rejected by all my local universities wasn't as bad after that! (And luckily the first one I applied to agreed to take me!)

Am still loving your thread & I still think you write a book about you're life & how well you've done IA;)

Hope you don't mind me hijacking your thread for a mo, but I am on the look out for the same sort of thing & this would be perfect for me, where did you see it advertised?

Hope you don't mind my asking?!

What time does Ste come in? I had to go back to work when my eldest was 7 months. First I worked in a convenience store doing a couple of 6pm-11pm shifts plus 5 hours on a Sunday, after 6 months I found an even better evening job 5-8 Mon-Fri. It was for a large national DIY store. Our co-op offers shifts that start at 6pm, and so does Tesco. Not sure about the others. From my days in a convenience store i know that they *used* to be very busy on lottery nights (wed and sat) and some places take on extra staff to cover these times.
