If your boss had too many staff how did she arrive at the conclusion that it would be your hours that would be cut. Did she cut anyone else's hour too, or just yours. If it was just yours then a clear cut case of discrimination.. I am sure other people will have told you this. Not sure about the childcare option though, it does sound like an excuse. You have every right to go back to the job you left following maternity leave.
I lost my job when my boss decided he couldn't afford to pay everyone and as I was on maternity leave I was the one who drew the short straw. When i complained he sacked me.
My legal expenses were covered on my home insurance legal cover. A real blessing (and thanks to the advice of someone on MSE!)Quality is doing something right when no one is looking - Henry Ford

When your two are school age, what about training as a classroom assistant, something like that? It's not great pay, but not as much grief as being a teacher, and really rewarding when you see the kids doing well. I'd love to do it, but I'll have to stick to banking for a few more years until I can afford it."I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250

She did mention to me that when she was cutting my hours she 'didn't have the hours' for another girl who was on maternity leave
but I don't know if anyone else's hours have been cut. As far as I'm aware the other girl who was on maternity leave is now back at work and her son is going to nursery there while she works. My boss is pregnant and also has her baby booked in to the nursery when she has it.. but for some unknown reason they all of a sudden couldn't have my girls for what I needed....

IA - I would seriously do a bit of investigating... It's not right what she has done. It is just so easy to 'let go' of the staff on maternity leave.. The bosses don't have to face them every day, and lets face it when you have had a baby the last thing you feel like is a battle. BUT the rules are there for a reason and she should not have abused her position.
Maybe you could use this to your advantage. Could you not write to her and say you understand that you are entitled to come back to work in the same position with the same hours. If she can't fulfill her obligations then surely your position is redundant and you are entitled to redundancy (depending on length of service) notice pay and accrued holiday pay. Sorry to go on but I feel quite strongly about this.Quality is doing something right when no one is looking - Henry Ford

I wouldn't even know where to begin and to be honest mentally I don't think I could cope with a battle. I know that what she did was wrong and yes I'm angry about it but I think if I dwell on it I'm only going to end up getting more down about it. I don't think I can win either way!Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043

I understand how you feel. Last year was extremely tough for me, and if it wasn't for the fact that my OH was out of work too I may not have gone through with it. The fact that my legal bills were covered helped too. The feeling of satisfaction to actually sit in front of a judge who wipes the floor with my old employer (she called him snide,LOL) was immense.
BUT it was tough and I faced teasing from my new employer about running to a tribunal whenever the going got a bit tough.
If you change your mind, I do know where to start. I would be more than happy to help, but I completely respect your wish to put it behind you and move on.. What you need now is to move on and put two fingers up to your old boss!:TQuality is doing something right when no one is looking - Henry Ford

You will be entitled to accrued holiday pay for the 6 months maternity leave. So make sure you get that. I agree with Sammy... have a look into it further. I wish I'd done more when my old employer refused my application to return to my old job PT, instead offering me a lower graded job, sure they wrong to do that but at the time, like you I didn't want to have a battle.

3.20am Kaitlyn woke up last night. She wouldn't settle so I did her nappy, no poo just a bit wet, gave her a bottle, she didn't want it and it took half an hour to get 3oz down her. She then went back to sleep, waking up at 6.45. Ste got up with her then and her nappy had leaked up her back so he changed her before trying to give her a bottle as she still wouldn't settle. She wouldn't have it and ended up coming into bed with me as by this time there was no point Ste going back to bed as his alarm would've been going off soon anyway. She finally had her bottle 45 mins later after grizzling the whole time. Argh what a night.
*sigh*
On a brighter note the TC went in today so once the paypal money is in our total will be £300.08. Also I should be paid tomorrow so we'll need to move some of that over (Forgotten how much).
