it is amazing how much heating a house in winter costs.
thanks to advice on here last month i called my gas and leccy company and said these are my new meter readings and a credit of £201 was put back in my bank and my payments went down by half!
mine are huge 45 electric 51 gas at the mo eeeekkk0 -
Nice one with the gas and electric! I've been looking around on the comparison sites and EDF online energy 5 comes up about £92 a yr cheaper every time but I'm wary of switching as we've been with Scottish Power since we moved in and the service has always been fantastic. Apparently we'll save money when their new prices come in so I might sit tight and see how that effects us before moving...
As for the food shopping we do a big food shop every 2 weeks and just buy essentials and fruit and veg in between. If we go over budget it's normally only by about £10 or so.... We make a list and buy what we need rather than want..Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043

another reason that i am pleased i rang them is apparantly i had an electric meter with a day rate and a night rate but because of having the reduced night rate i was paying a standing charge for the day rate( they said that this house probably had storage heathers at some time) so they suggested having my meter changed to a 1 rate meter with no standing charge which would save me a few pennies as the only thing that is using leccy at night is my fridge/freezer.
i dont like to use washing machine/dishwasher at night as i am scared stiff of fire/flood.0 -
Can completely relate to the fire/flood thing... I literally have to go round the house checking all the sockets are off and that nothing except for the essentials are on/on standby.... if they are I get it into my head they're going to catch fire in the middle of the night!! Talk about paranoia! lol!Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043

You will be entitled to accrued holiday pay for the 6 months maternity leave. So make sure you get that. I agree with Sammy... have a look into it further. I wish I'd done more when my old employer refused my application to return to my old job PT, instead offering me a lower graded job, sure they wrong to do that but at the time, like you I didn't want to have a battle.
xx
Okay IA, sorry to be a nag, but I think someone has to. This has kept me awake thinking. I know you are not prepared for a battle but it doesn't necessarily have to turn into one. Your employer is in the wrong. FULL STOP! So maybe you should use it to your advantage. If she can't fulfill her obligations she should make you redundant. Tell her you will have a compromise agreement drawn up where you agree not to sue her !!!! off if she makes you redundant. You can then quite legitimately go to the Department of work and pensions and sign on, until you find a job that suits. And yes, do as TIgz says and make sure you get your accrued holiday pay.
I promise this is the last time I will nag you. I will shut up after this - honest!:oQuality is doing something right when no one is looking - Henry Ford

Morning, I recently contacted the electricity company to query our charges as we still owe them £651. It turned out that we were on a Economy 7 package and had been for the last 30 years!!! (Parents always took care of this so I never checked). I have now changed to a normal package. This means we have been paying probally 25% more on our bills for the last 30 years as we certainly wasnt aware of it.
It just goes to show you should check ALL utillities as the debt we have with them could easily of been avoided.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 297 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts0 -
have you got any plans for today?
i'm going to go into town later as apparantly we have a market every wed i have only lived here 18mths and didn't know this.
so i'm going to pop in after lunch as i have been told they reduce all their fruit/veg towards the end of the day.
its 12/13 miles to my nearest town so it needs to be worth the petrol to go.0 -
the best one was my electric bill for £2500 apparantly my payments were going to the wrong account because of ONE digit of the account number being typed in wrong.took 18 months and my refusal to pay to sort it ...............final bill... £8.21 which they waived as a gesture of goodwill...yeh right cheers!
sorry I_A for butting in there...all these months of being shy now i can't shut up!!0
