18 months is not a reasonable lifespan for a console. You need to quote ' The sale of goods act 1979' which states that the goods must be of SATISFACTORY QUALITY and the GOODS SHOULD ALSO BE DURABLE, this means that they should last the length of time that a reasonable person would expect goods of that kind to last.

18 months is not reasonable, contact the trader first in order to establish what they can offer. I contacted the manufacturer but usually it is advisable to contact the trader first.

If you google, you'll find there's a well known manufacturing fault on the launch xbox360 to do with the heat sink and thermal contacts; basically they used some cra&ppy thermal paste or something and after a while the contact goes so the heat sink isn't properly attached.... They know they have this problem...

Called hmv and gave them the whole sale of goods act malarky but no good. They basically said that their definition of 'reasonable time' is a year. I've got their address to write a formal complaint as that is b*****ks.

On a brighter note the pushchair finished on £31 :D You never know it may end up having to go towards a new xbox though!

When my son failed his GCSEs my husband got a sledgehamer and smashed his xbox to bits. However, he managed to get himself a new one last summer. Brand new. After doing a bit of work for his dad, he paid for it himself and now hes going to fail his AS levels as well. Just thought Id let you know that piece of useless information.

    Ouch!!!!!!

Hi IA - good luck with the Xbox - really really push for the replacement - but it doesn't sound like you're going to be fobbed off anyway! I've also seen the news about xboxes dying from 14 months onwards due to that fault as well. Make such a stink they'll replace it just to shut you up!!

Glad the buggy is so useful :)

It does not matter what their definition is... unless their think that they have the right to change people's statutory rights.... Would they like to advertise and say ' Our goods will only last a year'.
Good luck with your claim whatever you decide to do, let me know if I can help you further.

Damn right I won't! It's causing my usually happy husband to be moping around like a 5 yr old who's lost his favourite toy. I'm after blood!
