If you have to get buses and trains it can make it a lot longer than if you can jump straight into your car.
If you're adding 4 or 5 hours to your working day, in my opinion that would be too much to ask anyone to do.
Much better to give someone the job that lives a lot nearer.
I agree with you, but as I have posted before, my last job was over 50 miles away.
But yes I see your point and bearing in mind that the JC+ search computer system only goes as far as 15 miles from your home!
I do however feel that if the money was right, I can't see many turning down a job 100 miles away!!!0 -
if you're happy to work u should be happy to travel
nothing;s on your doorsteps these days:mad:
quite sure if follks have to travel 50 miles to get their dole money they would and then charge the travel expense back to the jobcentre oh and throw in a suit to boot PMSL!Time is the best teacherShame it kills all the students*******************************************************************************************0 -
What concerns me is - with the changes in disability status on the cards (ie dropping ESA(C) after 12 months) - this will no doubt put a lot of former ESA(C) claimants on to JSA(C) - Will these disabled people somehow be filtered out and given exclusion from the requirement to work ?
How Exactly ?
Whilst I appreciate that there are some people "playing the system" on JSA and ESA - I don't believe that compulsory work / or lose your benefits for 3 years can work - this surely breaks human rights laws ?
How do you know that people will be able to move from ESC (C) to JSA(C)? Even if this is the case, people can only claim JSA(C) for 6 months.
Why would anyone on JSA "be filtered out and given exclusion from the requirement to work ?"0 -

Sick people will be on JSA, but nobody will employ many of them.
They'll have to go through the motions, play the system to keep their JSA while they are sick.
If they fail JSA then they'll be sanctioned & they can starve & be made homeless.
Vicious circle.
That's very sensible & will end up costing more money.0 -
Yup - it's mentioned at the end, the capital rules will be similar to IS.
But it also says no-one will be worse of as a direct result of moving to the new system, I quote:
"If the amount of Universal Credit a person is entitled to is less than the amount they were getting under the old system, an additional amount will be paid to ensure that they will be no worse off in cash terms".
Wonder how they'll handle this? Transitional relief for a few years? Or maybe they'll introduce capital rules to tax credits beforehand?
It also proves that the line the tories are taking about nobody claiming now will be worse off is a blatant lie!
Well they voted them in so I guess they made their bed and will now have to lie in it.0 -

Because (believe it or not) many present day ESA(C) claimees are genuinely unable to work (having some savings does not automatically mean that a person is a faker - it merely means that they had to foresight to follow Tory advice and save) - and those who are genuinely to ill to work (but not on their deathbeds - as the "Support group" requires) will be expected to work - after 6 months or lose their benefits completely - TOTALLY unfair and - when people start dying due to this change in the rules - you watch the recriminations !!0 -
I've got two nephews aged 21 and 23, both of whom suffer from dyspraxia and one in addition has Aspergers.
The older one has found a job as a care assistant but the younger one hasn't even had an interview after literally hundreds of applications.
To look at him, you wouldn't think there's anything wrong with him, but there's very little chance of him holding down a job on the off chance he should ever get one.
He's on JSA, and I do wonder what will happen to young people like him when these changes are operational. He has tried so hard to find a job but to no avail...there just aren't any for people in his position and it's unfair to label them scroungers.0 -
The government have created a scapegoat for the state of the economy, the unemployed and the disabled.
And some people are ready to blame them instead of the real culprits, the bankers.0 -

That doesn't answer my question. I was wondering why someone would be moved onto (CB) JSA rather than (IB) JSA and what would be the point of transferring them if they were only going to be "filtered out" from the basic job seeking requirements.0
