This was my 20th donation......I used to donate regularly, then I started having problems with it, and was refused more times than I was accepted, which led to great stress in the lead up to it (yes, daft I know!) so then I ended up saying enough was enough - the stress it incurred, on top of everything else that was crap in life, considering that I was likely to be sent home anyway, made it something that I dropped.

I always felt bad that I wasn't donating, so was very pleased when I made the decision last year to give it another go.....so far so good, and hopefully it will continue that way. At least with the new system of making an appointment you can do so without hanging about and if you are going to be sent home it is done quickly......compared with years gone by when I would sit in a queue for hours before being told thanks but no thanks!

I think so - 21st is the Spring Equinox.....? Am sure someone will correct me if needed!

El, I have had years in the past when I ahve been unable to donate blood through being anaemic, but my blood type is quite rare so they want me to keep trying......it was one of the things on my "101 things to do" list that I made after XOH left.....to give blood again, partly because it is something I feel I want to do quite strongly, and partly because it might help me focus on getting myself healthy in order that my blood is good enough to take!! I managed to donate in November for the first time in about 8 years, so I was very pleased with that......fingers crossed for this evening.

yep it is spring equinox ... the lighter nights are coming yay ...

thats great that you do that hypno giving blood is one of the best things you can do ... i really wanted/want to do it ... sadly i cant ... so i can cheer brave souls like you on instead .... :j:j:j

I can't give blood for about 6 months (I've been taking anti-malarials) but must get back to it soon. I find that the organised events never quite suit me but I have realised that the local blood donor centre is only about a 15 min drive. I can't stand the thought of the needles going in so I just turn my head - the nurses are very good about it.

Sun was lovely today down here - I really need to get back into my lunchtime walking routine. I always feel better for it and it is much better for me than sitting at my desk and surfing the net!

I don't watch the needles go in, and I have a fairly high pain threshold so they don't bother me too much, but today's really did hurt for some reason, although having just taken the dressing off, it doesn't seem to have bruised, so it must just have been me!

The organised ones are so much easier for me - a 6pm slot straight after work and only 10 mins walk away from the office means I have no reason not to go.

Well done for the blood donation. I used to give blood, then they kept changing the rules about who could and couldn't, and if you'd *ever* had a blood transfusion you couldn't give ( which meant just about anyone who'd had surgery), it got so complicated I just gave up.
