We paid 700 for a 1.1 in her first year!
Sorry
That's not all that bad. It cost me £550 for my first insurance payment (I feel the sting even now ) and that was 20 years ago, when £550 went a lot further than it does now.

Was well worth it, though - had a superb evening with P who, as you can see, was on fine form too.....:D
When I started to drive, many many years ago granted, it was not the insurance premium that was high for me as a 17 year old, but the excess they insisted on. That meant that at least we could afford to insure me easily, but my Mum made sure I had saved enough in my own savings to cover the excess should I have any sort of claim, which was a really good way of doing it.Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. I discovered your (latest) diary two days ago and have spent all my working day (in between a little reception/switchboard activity) in reading about your life. I intend to read all the old diaries now to appreciate your journey.
Thank you for sharing your story. I was so excited by the house purchase, and the rush to get packed and the completion date. I had a big grin when it all went through. You sound a lovely person and I am so glad your life has been turned round by all your hard work (blood, sweat and tears, I imagine) and you are enjoying your new year, new start.
Best wishes for a wonderful 2011 for you and your family. I shall now go back in time to the very first diary!!0 -
German or Japanese for reliability with cars.
DD's insurance will be a lot, DS's will be worse when he gets there. It's really no wonder there's so many uninsured drivers the penalty is a fraction of the cost! The 6th formers I've been working with can't get under £800 on the tiniest 1.1 with parents as named drivers. Scary costs. No longer using this account for new posts from 20130 -

My first car cost £115 and the insurance was £117
I thought that was scary, but I see what prices are being charged to the youngsters now it is very frightening  and I think I got off easy.
How are they supposed to get their independence and make their own way in life when they are faced with high insurance costs (so car not affordable), ridiculous university fee's (which make you think twice about further education) and a humungous deposit required to buy a house.
You can't get a decent job as you don't have the qualifications, you can't get a job at all because you have no experience but it doesn't matter as you couldn't get there anyway as you can't afford a car & don't live near decent public transport. And you still live at home with Mum and Dad as you approach retirement as you couldn't afford a home
Ah well, they can all come on to MSE in the future and ask how to get themselves out of the mess that life has out them in

Prudencekitten - welcome to my diary! It never ceases to amaze me when someone goes back and reads my drivel!
Last night I met a friend for dinner and a catch up, with much laughs thrown in, of course. It was a lovely evening and a lot of fun. Money I hadn't expected to spend, but there we go...
I have had the car on charge all night - hopefully it will be working this morning, and I will try it in half an hour or so......I have to go and collect DS's skis from the service place, because he is off to Norway in the next couple of days.....so if I can't get the car started, I will start to stress as I try and get everything done, ready and delivered by tomorrow evening.....bah!
So.....deep breath, Thursday is here, life is good, and I have a full day ahead of me. have a good one everyone xSuccessful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
