  • Absolutely, it's become perfectly reasonable to expect a big release to arrive on/before release day, there are lots of retailers out there who guarantee this - Gameplay to name just one. If these retailers value repeat business, then they should do their level best to ensure that customers such as myself are not let down. It's in RM's interest as well.

Sorry, but I find it unreasonable to expect a high-profile title to arrive any later than a release date for those that order. If this fails to happen it simply means that future purchases will be made in-store and not online; so both RM and the retailer lose out. I also find it unreasonable to expect my purchase to arrive tomorrow (Thursday) or beyond. I would not have minded had been some less important title .. but as I say, its one of the main releases of the year (and THE main release for many!) so satisfaction is at a low end with both RM and Tesco-entertainment. Maybe RM do not need the the work in future (for big launches) - in which case Tesco should deal with someone else to assure customers are satisfied.

so you would like RM to prioritise your item over other mail?
    how exactly does that work?
do you seperate all those items at tesco and put them on priority all over the UK
you realise RM are regulated and have obligations?
so tesco should 'deal' with someone else?
why didnt tesco use one of RMs next day services? or a courier?
    think about it

    and again.how does that work?
you would have all of these items separated from the mailstream i assume?

so given RM didnt get them into their system until Monday
    and its coming from Jersey
Tuesday would be the first chance of delivery
this week there has been a massive hit of DSA which is pounding the mail centres and as a knock on delivery offices
the mail centres are not fully staffed in the start of the week.welcome ot the future
as you see.some are being delivered today.
    that seems reasonable to me

on the one hand I think this demonstrates that first class really doesn't mean first class anymore and on the other tesco should have sent it earlier. can't help but agree with both inferences.

but mostly tesco should have ensured that this was sent in reasonable time with a delivery service that could meet its obligation to their mutual customers. mostly, tesco should have sent out friday and made sure they arrived on time (you know like pretty much every other retailer out there managed to do, even those with a reputation for being late).

seriously, have you not seen whats happening in RM
at last count there were over 64,000 staff lost in RM letters over the last few years.
do people think that doesnt make any effect?
if Tesco dont use RM next time.who do you think it will be?
a DSA carrier who then hands the packets to RM to deliver for less money
you use Tesco because it was cheap.where do you think the savings come in?

No, not at all, my quibbles are not with Royal Mail, but Tesco Entertainment. I was just stating that it is also in Royal Mail's interest that Tesco deliver such items to their customers on/before release day, as it can shed both companies in a bad light.

Surely being a huge retailer, they should have anticipated the time in which it takes to mail an item from Jersey to mainland UK and despatched the item on Friday or even Saturday. I don't think it's an unreasonable request. I just think Tesco have dropped the ball on this one.

To be honest, I think most savings come in because Jersey is exempt from VAT.

I am speaking from the point of someone ordering a product in this competitive age, where customers show little to no loyalty other than that of price and/or previous experience; there are expectations that are 'reasonable' for customers.

If you are purchasing a high-profile title that generates plenty of business and stimulates interest in other titles in the future; it is important that the 'launch experience' is maintained. I have previously purchased Halo Reach from TE and felt that I was within my rights to expect a similar level of satisfaction for Black Ops. I could have made a visit to my local Tesco Extra store and got the item that way - but instead because my level of previous satisfaction was high I felt fine with making the online purchase. Now, will I be making the same business with TE in the future, of course not. In future any high-profile title will be bought in-store because I have no faith in RM nor TE.

Possibly RM should have pre-emptied the potential issues and offered TE a solution of sending the product out earlier. Either way, RM are the ones I blame more than TE and quite obviously cannot handle such business in the future.

so how would RM do this?
they are perfectly capable of dealing with that
but 1st class isnt a guaranteed service
Tesco could easily have used RMs next day tracked service
    job done
so its down to Tesco what they choose to use.
RM cannot show favour over customers.
wouldnt it then do this for Amazon who use RM daily?
    but they dont
  • It seems that they dropped the ball there too, perhaps Tesco do it with all their releases? I don't know. As a customer the only thing I care about is getting my game on release day. All I know is that whenever I've used another retailer such as Gameplay, I've very often received the item on or before the release date.

Perhaps that's because Gameplay are based on mainland UK? Perhaps Tesco are not legally able to ship the items earlier just because they're based offshore? I don't know, but when I look at it in black and white, all I see is that Tesco aren't delivering on time, whereas Gameplay are.
