Hi

This is my first post, it's good to see so many people doing the same hamper thing as me! I did my first last year, and am determined to be more organised this year. Every household is getting a hamper, so the list is currently 11 - eek! Last year trying to cool 'christmas flapjacks' to pack them at midnight was not fun! The syrup means they take FOREVER to cool! Although the baking will still have to be done the day before the delivery trawl, they will be done before midnight!

Does anyone know where sells shot glasses cheaply?
I saw a set of tesco shot glasses for £2.49.
• How long do the jam's and chutneys last?

would love to try and make them for the first time but don't want to poison anyone!
• Fab ideas, always been too scared to do my own hampers, might give it a go now ive seen these ideas!!

thankyou!!
Mummy to 2 gorgeous boys
Edward 4 on xmas day and baby Benjamin born 28/12/09 weighing a whopping 9lb14oz!!
• I just picked up 4 lovely wicker baskets from a car boot this morning all for under £1.50 each. :j
One is like a flower arranging one
the second has two flaps each side that close and is going to be for toiltries
and the third is a little wicker suitcase type which will be for chutneys/pickles/jams

they are going to look great as hampers.

So don't forget to take a look at car boots:D

2) Calling all coeliacs - I'm making a gluten/wheat free 'treats' hamper for the SIL-to-be who's a coeliac. So far I've just bought a few things from the mainstream supermarkets, but if anyone can suggest other places to get items from, I'd be grateful.

When i was browsing the retro sweet thread i noticed that one of the old-fashioned sweet websites has categorised all their gluten-free sweets...

Hope that helps

For the "padding" inside your hamper - if you have bought coloured or patterned cellophane to wrap them in; cut some of that and either cut into thin strips or shove it through a shredder! I saw a tiny pack of "shredded cellophane" on sale for over £1!
• Just had a full day of making stuff!

I made....

About a million bath bombs out of a set I bought off eBay for £22 - all with different essential oils in and dried flowers/lavendar in different shapes and sizes.

I bought a kilo of clear melt and pour soap which I coloured with a bit of orange colouring and added some orange and cinnamon Christmassey scent and poured it into a long narrow loaf tin and when half set added some dried orange slices from eBay
(http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Dried-Orange-Fruit-Slices-Natural-50g-Christmas-Decor_W0QQitemZ330047188073QQihZ014QQcategoryZ36018QQcmdZViewItem) then when fully set, sliced it into 'bars' like you can get from Lush. Then I wrapped in greaseproof paper (!) and tied with a bit of raffeta!

THEN I made HM skittles vodka, toffee vodka and rasperry schnapps. Didn't want to spend alot on the cheap vodka but didn't want to use those small, horrible, stubby bottles. So I bought a large 1.5ltr bottle and bought some cider vinegar from Tescos which was only 63p and came in lovely, tall thin bottles. I then decanted the vodka into these and they look fab!

Quite pleased with myself really... going to put my feet up and watch the rest of X Factor now! x

Dried orange slices and lemon slices can be made easily at home - slice up a lemon or an orange, place on a lined baking tray and put in the oven on the lowest setting. This can take a few hours, I usually just leave them on overnight. I used to buy them from craft shops in the past, but now I always make my own!

My mum soon informed me of this too after I'd bought them. But then, they weren't that much, I paid from funds that buyers had put in Paypal for me for some !!!!!! I'd sold and surly it would cost quite a lot to leave the oven on all night?

Oh well, you get the point anyway!
