We have a local "discount store" that sell packs or ready shredded tissue paper for less than £1, but I love the tinsel idea! Very christmassy and sparkly at the same time!:T And then the recipient can use it to decorate the house/tree/whatever when they've emptied the hamper too!0 -

I was looking for shot glasses too, but found them to be a little on the expensive side. All other types of glasses are cheap tho- go figure:rolleyes:
Anyway, I went out sat night for a couple of drinks, and guess what I found- shot glasses.
Well, they are plastic and blue, but they were free. People just leave them lying around after they have finished with them. I bagged about 8- my bag was a little sticky when I got home, but at least I didn't pay for them:j0 -

Phew! At least I'm not the only one that has done this!I have a pub/social club nigh on right next door, and they often leave pintglasses and such outside. SO if I see one, I pick it up, take it home and give it a good clean. First in the sink, then in the dishwasher on 70°! Havne't found any shot glasses lying around though... Although, I used to know a club that served shots in test tubes, maybe they'd come cheaper than shot glasses?:D

Poundland in Croydon are selling chrome fruit bowls criss cross design that could be used rather than a basket as these often get thrown away/float around wondering what to use them for.

How about mixing? That way, they will both last longer, and will look a bit less...tinselly:o ... Just nice and sparkly. With coordinated colours of course...0 -
Hi
I'm still going for this idea.
I've had loads of success today buying baskets-:j
Tesco have a set of 2 that are lined for £3.49 (i think)
I also got some in a large Wilkinson store-they had loads in all different sizes.
I am going to take photos when I've finished, I just have to learn how to post them!!! Would it be an idea to have a thread just for photos??!!Newbie Comper

Another idea, don't know if anyone has said this already but cotton wool balls in the hamper with smellies would look like snow and tie in with the contents!

This thread is great, I actually wish I had people to make hampers for as they are so personal & thoughtful but I pretty much know what I'm getting everyone/people have asked for specific gifts. I'm rubbish at cooking so dont think I'd attempt the fudge/biscuits as good as they sound & I'm worried I'll mess up the soap bombs. But I'm wondering if I was to do just 1 or 2 hampers would I really be saving any money?
All the pictures look fab but I'm worried that because I'm not very creative mine would look cheapMarried my wonderful husband February 2013!:happyhearI want to wear my beautiful wedding dress everyday- it would make shopping so much more fun, I mean, people go shopping in their pyjamas these days.......Must STOP spending!!!Proud to be dealing with my debts!0 -
I've got a small suggestion for all you hamper makers out there.
If you need tissue paper to either 'line' your hamper of to fill some space (and then cover with nicer stuff) consider popping into your local shoe shop and asking them!!
I work for Clarks and at the moment we are inundated with people asking for empty boxes for the christmas sho box appeal thingy and when I ask them if they want tissue paper to wrap stuf in they are ever so pleased
All of our shoes are filled with tissue paper and then wrapped in more tissue paper which we have to empty out before we serve the customer. Sometimes this isn't too fab but at the moment the quality of the paper in the new winter boot boxes is good and would be ideal for using as a base under your goodies.
We throw away ever so much tissue paper every day - if the sales assistant looks suprised that you are asking then tell them its for charity and they'll give it to you no probs :rotfl:Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...0
