The tax code you've input says your tax-free allowance was...£5030 - £5039Based on ONLY the salary and age you've input,
your personal allowance would have been
(read more)£5035There's a difference of £5 between the tax free allowance suggested by age & salary, and the one from your tax code. Unless you have any other income, or deductions (see below), it appears your tax code could be incorrect.
Could someone exsplain please what this means?
Many Thanks xxxx0 -

That you've gone back to 2006-07 when the personal allowance was £5035. And you've input a Code of 503? The 'tool' works on a £10 band ..... so you just ignore the message.
Code 503 was the correct basic code for that year. You only have cause for concern if you consider you were entitled to extra allowances that year - or should have been subject to additional deductions. If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
Hi,
Got home yesterday and found a P800T Tax Calculation in the post and to my horror it says I OWE them money!!!??
I changed jobs in early 2008. This Caluclation is for 2007/2008.
It states that "You had two employments at the same time and both employers were appling a PAYE code giving the full tax free allowances - you therefore received more allowances than you were due"
I have two jobs, my tax code for my second job is and always has been BR (Basic Rate) my main employment is the normal tax code 647L, I have never had "extra" money in my pay for had any reason to challenge the tax I was paying.
I called HM Revenue and got an uppity obnoxious guy who told me "Its your responsibility to check your own tax code and calculations" I maybe am being a bit thick here but.... is that not their job or my HR departments job, I have not seen any error so why would I challenge it???
We went round and round in circles and basically I have to find ALL my payslips for 2007-08 and P60 (that will be fun) and write challenging the descision and tell THEM why I think THEY have made an error???
Any assistance here would be a fantastic help as I have been in tears about this they want £328.62 and I simply dont have that money!I am trying to sort out our money hassles and really did not need this on top of everything else! Think I will have to stop paying into my company pension to cover this possibly!
Many Thanks

That's the norm for 2 x jobs. The only reason it would normally give rise to an underpayment is where the combined figures put you in the 40% tax bracket (above £39825 in 07-08).
You only need the P60s (unless you changed jobs in which case P45s come into it). The first thing to do is check those back to the P800 and ensure that matches your data. Perhaps post the figures on here if they do match.
If not .... back onto HMRC and provide your figures (send the P60s ..... but copy them first) . Full detail in the P800 Notes and the 'What Happens Next' flyer you received at the same time. Everything here if not :

After nearly 4 months of waiting - my cheque for £530.30 finally arrived on Saturday.....
Even though the HMRC said it was all completed on the 23rd Jan, the letter and the cheque had a date of 20th January!!!!
Do not care anyway - money has been banked and now waiting for it to clear.....:j:j:beer::beer:If the world is a stage... I want better lighting!0 -
If it hadn't have been for the HMRC computer error I would never have known I had overpaid tax at all. Just before Christmas I received a cheque for £2,396 for 2008-10. That got me thinking about previous years and sure enough I have been overpaying since 2006. The tax office told me today that they will pass it to someone to check it out and I'll hear back in approx 6 weeks. I've also been overpaying since April 10 to the advisor said she will send me a refund for these overpayments. Happy lady!0

Your refund for April 2010 onwards will be in the shape of a new tax code and will be paid back via your salary/wage.If the world is a stage... I want better lighting!0 -
