How to get a tax rebate inc Tax Code Checker

Did not find the Tax Code Calculator too helpful in my case.
I am retired and my total income is below £24K, so am entitled to the higher rate of Personal Allowance of £9,490. However, State Pension is paid without tax being deducted (even though tax is due on it), so the Tax Code applied to my private pension has to calculated not only to collect the tax due on the private pension, but also that due to be paid (but not taken from) the State Pension. For example:
Private pension = £10,000
State pension = £10,000
Total Income = £20,000
Less personal allowance of £9,490
Tax therefore due on £10,510 @ 20% is £2,102
The total tax due on the total income can only be taken from the Private Pension, and the Tax Code allocated will reflect this.0 -
Can anyone check if i have worked this out right please (total tax refund = £961.54) i dont have my tax codes but i have worked it on normal personal allowance which i should have been on -
2008/2009 - pay £11133.10 - tax £1571.80 (personal allowance - £6035. therefore taxable pay £5098.10/20% = £1019.62) tax refund due £552.18
2009/2010 - pay £10443.02 - tax £1118.00 (personal allowance - £6475, therefore taxable pay £3968.02/20% = £793.60) tax refund due £324.40
2010/2011 - pay £14283.24 - tax £1646.60 (personal allowance - £6475, therefore taxable pay £7808.24/20% = £1561.64) rax refund due £84.96
i dont have my p60s or p45 because of a fire, these figures above are on a letter that i requested from HMRC, can i send in this letter instead of p60's as evidence and which form do i need to fill in, I was working up until february this year, I am currently recieving maternity allowance but will not be returning to employment for a year or 2
Thank you

If the letter is from HMRC - there's not much point your sending it them back? If I've understood that?
Your calculations as to tax due are correct (but drop the pence .... you round income down and tax [paid] up) ........ you may find this easier? To cross check :-

If tax has consistently been overdeducted then there must have been a reason for it? So you need to make sure that is resolved. If eg HMRC have the wrong code numbers for each of those years then that has to be sorted out first (or as part of your refund request).
No form needed. As they've obviously got all the correct pay / tax paid data. Either ring them - if the reason for the overpayments is simple. Or write to them (expect a couple of months wait) and set it all out that way (and enclose a copy of their statement of pay / tax .... for good luck!)

I agree with Mikeyorks but just a minor point.
Income is rounded down.
Allowances are rounded up.
Tax is Tax and the pennies are always included.0 -
thank you to you both, no idea why its all wrong, this years i can understand because my contract came to an end in feb and i havent worked since but not sure on the previous years, i might see if i can get them to check further back too, thank you!

Are you sure there is not a reason for you to be on a lower tax code than the norm?
For example did you receive any taxable benefits such as medical insurance or company car?0 -
No nothing, i only worked in a hotel and call centre, no benefits of any kind, i have checked the hmrc and cant understand why i would have a lower tax code than anyone else, is there any other reasons that someone would have a different tax code? xxx0

Numerous reason but most usual are taxable benefits, previous underpayments and a state benefit which is paid gross but is taxable.
Have you received a P2 coding notice which would explain your tax code?
What tax code were you last on?0 -
my last code was 647L, I dont know anything about a P2 so i would say no i havent recieved one
