BTW, copyright of an image remains with the photographer unless the photographer signs a release form transferring their rights, or the image was commissioned by a 3rd party. In which case, the 3rd party owns the copyright.

  • That's me sorted now patman.... Love the squirrel, and the leaf surround!
Sorry for being stupid but what is Col. Photo soc.? It'd be great to have a proper judge critique us all tho? I'll keep my fingers crossed!

I suspect on here as we have all signed up as members and agreed to abide by the rules, (including that matter posted on the boards is copyright MSE etc) that one would have trouble sticking, although of course 99% of the time this is the case. The other old chestnut that usually gets people is that you "can't take a photo of someone without their permission" which is nonsense. On public ground, you can take a photo of pretty much anything or anyone you want, however, set foot onto an area like a shopping centre (or the area around the London Eye!) and expect to get stopped and questioned though! :D

Pat - love your photos - the autumn colours one was a brilliant spot with all those colours in one small area - the squirrel is a cutie too! I'm going to stray away from the herd though and say I'm not sure that the leaf border adds anything - I feel it might be a little too busy for the subject, particularly with the leaves on the ground around the squirrel too. I've tried using Flickr to put photos on forums in the past but have had problems every time.

Contemplates - it will be the Colchester Photographic Society I'm guessing.

Not sure that I am up to scratch for a professional judge, just setting out on this photography lark and whilst I would appreciate good advice and pointers in the right direction I would also appreciate that people understand that I am very new to all of this and please dont judge me along with the experienced people. That said, thanks EH for the new challenge. I am, yet again nervous about this one.

BTW, the judge who critiqued my photos in the recent Colchester Photographic Society DPI comp gave the 'Autumn Colours' 7.5, and the 'Squirrel' 6.5 as she found the border to be a bit overpowering.

Cheri, so far as I'm concerned this thread is very much a bit of fun - whilst I'm sure everyone will welcome constructive criticism and suggestions as to how they might improve a shot, I wouldn't like to see it turning into a competition and people feeling uncomfortable about posting their pics here as a result of that.

I'm glad to hear you're nervous about the challenge - that's a good thing, as in everything it is nerves that will push you to achieve something a step up from what you might expect of yourself. This one is a real challenge for me too I have to say, I have an idea, but it's going to rely firmly on me finding a window of opportunity with the right light, and the right level of patience to work until I get the shot I want. Hmmm. I rather fear that the light is more likely to appear than the patience!
