  • Cheri, You certainly have some patience! Neither of my pups play ball when I get my camera out of the bag!

You haven't done your photos justice by posting them so small? The first one looks really sharp, but if you could make it a little bigger, we could see just how much detail you have captured in the eye and feathers?

The middle photo tells such a great story of how strong the relationship is between man and dog! A brilliant capture in my view!:D

I must admit, I have loads of photos on my computer, so I simply select an appropriate one rather than trying to take a piccy each week.

Just as an aside, what kit are you all using?

Hi Pat - I'm afraid your pic isn't showing for me either!

*gentle nag* Without wanting to be harsh we had agreed that the point of this challenge was really to "get out and use the camera" rather than to post up pics we'd already had - unless using them as an example or to ask a question of course. To give you a bit of background, the thread started off the back of several of us bemoaning the fact that we have these cameras, but often fail to make the best use, or indeed any use, of them. :) I have a feeling that one of the challenges - probably over Christmas when people might struggle to make the time to shoot something specific, might well be "One of my favourite pics" though!

Me - Canon, and some sigma lenses. And some Canon lenses. And an iPhone which has a surprisingly good camera on it - expect to see a challenge in due course for phone cameras people! And a little Samsung compact :D This weeks shots were with the Canon 100mm Macro - luvverly lens, which periodically I feel I can't justify keeping as I use it so rarely. Then I use it and realise that I can't bear to flog it!
I am terrible for aquiring cameras and never getting round to selling them when I'm through playing. I think in total I have about ten or eleven of them at the moment, ranging from my DSLR to a Kodak instamatic bought for £4 from a boot sale as it was identical to the camera I was first given when I was about 8, which started me off on the photo thing in the first place. :o

i think everyone has posted fantastic photo's again this weekend. though i can't see Pat's photo either i'm afraid.
Cheri don't underestimate your photo's, like Contemplates has said it takes a lot of patience to get good photo's of pets, they can be little boogers if my two girls are anything to go by.

My camera is a Samsung digital camera, 10.2 mega pixels, 10 optical zoom and an Ultra wide lense. Certainly not a pro camera which is sounds like many of you have :) it does take lovely photo's though.

ps this piccy is of one of my girls called Twix

EH they are beautiful photo's. I've also always wanted to take a photo of a spiders web, especially when it's a frosty morning and they are all glistening. But usually i'm rushing to my car to get to work when they're are like that. Going to have to get my thinking cap on.
Use a fine mist spray bottle for the dew effect at any time of the day.
  • Forum is driving me barmy tonight - soooooo slow to load!

Contemplates sorry to hear you've been poorly - come on then, 'fess up, which particular piece of photographic gear candy are you setting your sights on?!

Pippi - I KNEW this challenge would suit you down to the ground, and was fully hoping that we would get exactly what we have from you - a couple of cracking shots of flowers! The Cyclamen has it for me - beautiful vibrant colours and lovely use of depth of field. I love the colour in the marigold as well but the first shot just has "something" :T

Cheri don't do yourself down - these shots show what a superb eye you have for composition, the second in particular is fabulous use of the angled shooting to really fill the frame. I would also like to see them larger - I think perhaps we need to get an idea of what software people are using and then have a quick "image sizing masterclass" - I can do one for photoshop which I am guessing is the same in photoshop Elements also. Photobucket is good at maintaining your sizing when you transfer the shots in there - I know Flickr has a habit of changing sizes when you link into the forum though. Anyhoo Cheri you have a couple of gorgeous pets there - definitely looking forward to seeing more of them! :T

On the subject of cute pets - LT, can I just say "AWWWWWWW!" - what a sweetie. I have a complete soft spot for tabby cats - we had a little tabby ourselves for a short time, sadly he wasn't ever destined to be long in the world I don't think and we lost him at just two years old. Just have the black & white demon now and she rarely stays still for long when she sees the camera out so I'm deeply impressed with you for managing to get this shot at all! :T Perhaps if I'm honest the fault lies with me rather than her Majesty - lack of patience!

I can see one of our future challenges will need to be "furry/feathery person" related! :D

What was or what are the forthcoming challenges as this thread may motivate me to take more photos?
  • Lemon, I've only been using my nikon for the past year or so. Beforre that I had a great wee Sony, which worked a charm, and had the benefit of being small and v portable!? It took a lot of my fav photos!

EH, I have to admit that the "no archive" image rule is a real pain, it definitely has me visualising things a lot more, which is something I've been wanting to improve on for ages, so thanks for cracking the whip!:o

I've been trying to brush up on my macro stuff, and this week really has made me want a proper macro lens. I'm really tempted by the Nikon 105mm AFS micro, tho it is a tad pricey!?

I'm looking forward to fur n feathers! :T

And thanks all for the get well msgs!

The inability of the forum to actually continue to display my photos AFTER I click 'save' to publish the post is really annoying, especially as they show perfectly when I drop the link into the 'Insert image' box when creating my post.

My kit - Sony A700 (bought it 2nd hand last month whilst still working), Cosina 70-300mm lens (Ebay bargain, kept from A200), Sony 18-70mm lens (was on the A700 when bought), extension tubes (great for macro shots & only £6 of Ebay), 1x 2x 4x & 10x magnifier lenses (bought for my Fuji HS-10, but didn't work with it so now waiting delivery of adapter ring to use on the Sony) and finally, Fuji HS-10.
    Never Knowingly Understood.

    3-6 month EF £0/£3600 (that's 0 days worth)
