  • Cheers LT & Pippi - I didn't half get some funny looks from passers-by out the front here with my tripod! :D Really glad I got my act together and did it though. I have a potential photography buddy locally - one of our upstairs neighbours has a DSLR and we've chatted about photography a few times - I've just lent her one of my lenses over the weekend as she has a project in mind that needs something a little more flexible than the standard kit lens she has for hers - we've agreed that we might get together and go out and grab some shots at some point so that would be nice.

Excellent photos EH, great use of a high apeture setting (F1.2 - F3.0 at a guess). The amazing thing about water droplets is that they act like 'lens' themselves. We had a talk by a Cambridge Prof. who specialises in macro photography. Strangely, he uses a 300mm lens, and shoots from below the subject.

Anyway, he is my entry for this week.

For some reason the forum has developed a technical hitch. When I click on the 'insert image' button and input the link to the photo it appears correctly, however when I save it the picture dissapears and is replaced by text instead.

Had a bit of a strange weekend so struggled to get a decent picture. i did take a couple of my African Grey but they are not great. I will post them anyway later (but truly they are just snaps). This working life is just taking over. I need to redress the balance, just not sure how to yet.

I must admit, I have loads of photos on my computer, so I simply select an appropriate one rather than trying to take a piccy each week.

Just as an aside, what kit are you all using?

  • Sorry guys, I'm going to have to cry off this wk, as I've been bedridden :(.

Pippi, ur photos r fantastic! I have to admit u really have mastered the art of floral photography! The colours are so vivid, and the shallow depth of field in the first pic really shows the flower off well! The second pic is brilliant as well. The whole flowerhead looks just perfect, with the water droplets as well! I will have to try my hand at the floral stuff, and see if I could produce anything nearly as good as those two!

EH, ur photos are amazing as well! Webs have always intrigued me, but I have never seen anything like yours to shoot. Again the depth of field shows them off perfectly, and the green background highlights them so well. It mustve taken you many attempts to get the focus so sharp?

Patman, I was really interested to see what you submitted this week, but again I can't get through to your link. I'm getting an error message, and the page only shows a small red box in the top left corner?I'm hoping it isn't me again, or I'm going to have to check my browser?!

  • Contemplates - get well soon - hope its nothing serious - ta for the compliment - I'm a planty person - so I guess I get alot of opportunities to take photos of flowers.

I nearly took one of my little neice - with her back to us splashing in a puddle - the one time I didn't have my camera out with me this weekend for a tiny walk down the lane - shot would have been perfect - she played there for ages - nothing like being that close to a little one to get the 'up close and personal' shot - gorgeous to watch - so I enjoyed that anyway. I never tend to think about taking anything other than flowers - as plants are what I do for a living - I get a bit too focussed.

What I wanted to say though was the cyclamen (pink one) was taken in a garden centre - brilliant DFW places to take photos of flowers and vegetation - free first of all - and a huge variety of plants - generally lots of them too (and labelled - always helpful). The marigold was in my veg garden - again for a DFW - (aside the food) taking pics in the garden is a good location.

Anyway looking forward to any other pics :)

    xx

Ps ta for being so kind!

  • Pippi...it's nothing that'll keep me from my camera for too long!!

Thanks for the tips on the garden centre....great idea, and I'll have to check one out later this week! What line of work are you in anyway?

Isn't it always the same? The one time you don't bring it is the one time you have an inspired moment!!

Oh and Im using a Nikon D5000 with a couple of lenses, but I've spent all wknd drooling over another one on the web!

Oh well I can in no way match up to the totally stunning pictures Pippi and EH have taken (sorry Patman cant see yours) Contemplates, hope you get better soon. I have had a very strange weekend so not had much chance to take many pictures. Here are my submissions but they are really just snaps as I didnt focus too much on what I was doing. Hope that you are kind to me
