Here we go.........................dunno if I did it right - I took a photo of wildlife that can move - I normally take photo of flower/vegetation which can't move - a moving target - not very good for me or my camera! The question mark around 'onset of winter?' is that I associate swans with migration and winter - but up here you do see them all year around - but at this time of year - more arrive every day until the lochs are full of them. The other reason I took it was because - I took it at about 3.15pm - and it was already beginning to get dark..............which really is the onset of winter eh?

fab photo's Louise & Pippi. It makes me realise how simple mine is, but Pippi you're right it's not a competition its just a way of improving what we do with our computers. You're also right that it's a Clematis, i can't believe that it's still flowering, i'm sure it flowered earlier this year as well.

You'll have to open photobucket - and where it says upload image - there is a thing there to set how big the photo is uploaded - change that 'more options' to somethign bigger than the default - then you'll be able to upload it bigger - but do it before you upload it - so you'll need to upload it aftert you've changed the default ...................?

    I had to change mine

Contemplates - you've woods and rivers - how wonderful - x What lovely pics! I only did one - what a dummy!

Ok, not overly imaginative but I have struggled this weekend to get out and about.
I played about with the colour switcher on the camera for this one. First time I have tried that
    photostream

OK, tried 3 times and it is not working. :(

  • OK - first, my picture....I only have one as well! :o

    4895Shadows.jpg

Not sure what it was about it that made me think "winter" - possibly the slightly watery daylight, and those l-o-n-g shadows? Either way, it's the shadows from the silver birch trees just outside the window here - our little patch of trees really define the seasons for us so it seemed fitting that my shot featured them somehow!:D

  • We've got some fab shots up haven't we!

LT - love that bright splash of colour - poor little confuzzled Clematis still flowering now! Also love the fact that right next to that flower you have a leaf fallen off the tree and all "Autumn coloured" too, just to underline the point!
Louise - the depth of field in that first shot is spot on isn't it! The colours in both your shots are fantastic too - and you just want to walk down that path...!
Pippi :T Beautiful - what a fantastic sunset and well done for stepping outside your comfort zone too! I wonder how many people from "down here" realised how far behind us southerners you are in terms of daylight too - I assume that in the heart of the winter you'll drop to about 6 hours daylight will you? That's the only thing I'm not sure how I'll get on with as and when we eventually do our move to the Hebrides!
Contemplates - you know your way round the settings on that camera! I like all four of yours, but my favourite would be the first for the contrast of the reddy brown leaves and green foliage, plus that lovely silky water. I like those lovely red berries as well - again fantastic depth of field, and the final one sums up winter brilliantly! The one of the leaf doesn't quite do it for me - although I do love the way you can see all the veins on the leaf. Do you think that possibly it's just missed being absolutely sharp by a fraction?
Cheri I'm not seeing anything there at the moment - how did you upload the photos onto here?

I love the way that this has made everyone think differently too!

Flickr is notoriously bad with getting shots onto forums - I've had problems there in the past which is why I generally use photobucket now!

Click here for Cheri's picture folks!

It's another one with a path that makes you want to walk along it! I like the leaves "just hanging on" on the trees too. There is something distinctly "Brrrr!" about it too - makes you want a hat and scarf to snuggle into!
