  • Thanks!

Contemplates - it was mid/late afternoon - it's difficult to get the tming right at this time of year isn't it, and I was limited on angles for the sculpture itself as the sun was causing me all sorts of problems with flare! The exposure on the church shot was metered from the corner of the tower so a straight mix of shadow and bright, but even then it needed a .5 stop tweak in DPP when I converted from the RAW file. I'm going to go away and have a play with some HDR processing on those in a second actually, so might post another up at some stage. :D

As for the next challenge - what do people think - a) about a subject, and b) about when to set it? Two weeks seem to be the way to go for the time period - I think people just have too much going on in their lives to be able to always go out and use the cameras - I know I do! So far as the subject goes, someone commented previously that they are looking forward to "Animals" so we could go with that?

  • I think Animals is a grand idea, and I know what you mean about being busy too. Two week gives plenty of time for the inspiration to set in and also allows to plan time for photos too!I'd like to see your best hdr of the church too btw.

OK - how about for this time

    "Animal.....Animate.....Inanimate"

Let's say a deadline of a couple of weeks time - there ought to be enough scope in there for EVERYONE to have a go so get snapping! :D

Thought it was one of these where we HAD to have some scope to be honest - some folk just *can't* photograph animals (went to use the word "shoot" before remembering that this one one context where using that word causes confusion and alarm!) but could probably photograph a statue of an animal in a fantastic way, for example.

Actually, that reminds me. A few years ago I was chatting with some people at work about plans for the weekend. Now, it just so happened that my plans included meeting up with some people from a photography forum for a day out in London - the idea being to concentrate on candid shots in particular as one of those going was a bit of an expert in that field and had offered to help the rest of us with advice etc. I was joining in the conversation but with only half my attention on it, so when asked said I was going out with some friend for a days shooting in London......when the next question was a slightly perplexed "Oh, what are you shooting?" I should probably have realised that my distracted response of "oh, not quite sure yet, probably people mainly" was going to lead to some astonishment and nervous glances!:D

I think the second one fits nicely to the whole subject to be honest! He looks pretty inanimate to me! :D Cracking capture on the first one too - I'm guessing there are a fair number of shots left on the "cutting room floor" as it were, before you got that one?! :D

  • Thanks EH, yeah I had the camera set to continuous high mode, so there was a good 'few' deleted! They were so beautiful and photogenic, almost asking to be "shot" as you called it. :rotfl: They made it quite easy tho, as after a while I caught on to the fact that they always surfaced at the same four spots, so I just pointed and tried to keep them in focus. Definitely a challenge tho.

The alligator on the other had was a doddle in comparison.

I'll still keep animate/inanimate in mind tho in case I come across anything fitting.

great shots contemplates. Love the way you have captured the moment on both. The water cascading is quite amazing. The alligator does it for me though he looks so pleased with himself.

I am sorry to not say more but I am afraid that I have a hobby horse and the first picture would "normally" cause me to get on it but I am restraining myself ;)
