Stevew8975 and sassy-one thanks for your comments about paranoia thats really helpful but theres only one party thats paranioid and thats Ebay isnt it! the comment about FAX was just an aside.

I've been buying stuff off the internet for about 15 years off dozens of sites and never had any issues, I shop and bank online so I don't have any issues with ID over the web at all.

When you send your ID 3 times to a company, the same documents obviously and they keep sending you the same emails back saying your account has been blocked or listing removed its a pain the !!!! to be honest , I reiterate I dont want to run a business just sell a few items on EBay and spending hours just replying to their silly scripted correspondence - well I aint got time for that part of it.

Im not into hiding my identity my getting around security as others on this thread are commenting on why would I want to do that?

EBay have made a mistake in my case but obviously if they are targetting someone who is trying to hide something or get around something then they are doing their job right.

because if you use your sisters computer to access your ebay and she forgets/decides not to pay her fees (for example) your account can be restricted as well. As you seem to be aware of they make mistakes too and they are not very quick at rectify them

If you're fairly savvy with internet security you will know large companies are indeed paranoid about their security; after all, eBay is targetted by a lot of hackers trying to get access to accounts in order to scam their customers. If someone gets scammed on eBay, they don't go around saying "hey guys, I got scammed by xxxeasterndealershipxxx on eBay, avoid that seller!", they go around saying "hey guys, I got scammed on eBay, don't use that site!" So it's in their interest to have high levels of protection against fraudulent users, or users who don't take good care of their accounts.

You are pretty quick to say you have used the internet for 15 years - longer than most of us - but seem petrified that someone could accidentally see your details if they knew how to look for things on a fax machine. However, you thought nothing of using three or four different computers to access your account, and may have left details on those machines for someone else to access your account. No wonder eBay thought you were a risk. It's like the people who wail about climate change then build large eco-friendly housing estates on the greenbelt, destroying the environment in a simpler and more obvious way than what they are trying to solve.

I gave you answers, if you don't want to follow them that's OK, but in the mean time, you're going to have to do something other than rant at us in order to sort this out. I don't blame eBay for putting a lot of safeguards in the way and if something you've done has triggered their anti-hacker mechanism, it's up to you to sort it out. If you don't like the means at your disposal, then fine, but don't blame us for calling you paranoid if you habitually use the internet for all kinds of things but don't want to take responsibility to secure your account in the most basic manner (ie by not using public machines that trip a switch at eBay HQ to access sensitive parts of the internet) and think it's up to other people to bail you out.

It's a shame you can't get authenticators for eBay accounts but I have one for both my WoW account and online banking; your details would be safer with one of those attached to an eBay account and I'd happily use one. It means I can play WoW on a public machine without having to worry about this. Limiting access to sensitive sites that don't have authenticators attached is a brilliant way you can safeguard details and reduce the need to send off ID details to someone else to get the account back.

Its not a rant at all, no more than most other postings that come on here with EBay issues, these are just comments and replies to other replies but the subject of the posting was to see if anyone else had been suspended without an obvious reason, thats all. My views on faxing my ID have side tracked responses and that wasn't the intention.

Bit of an exaggeration on the web buying years probably, but definately is more than 12 as I remember buying France 98 World Cup merchandise and if anyones interested never had any issues purchasing with which is a good advert.

Thanks for your replies everyone and I will take on board the use of multiple computers (3) that EBay monitor. I dont use any other public computers aprt from the family shared one. Ill try and keep to one computer and not change my email! and see how it goes when or should they open it up again.

Well I had awful trouble a few yrs back - i had great 100% feedback but son also went and sold a few things on my account and mucked it up - getting it barred. I explained - then asked for docs - which I did. Then nothing - contacted agian - asked for docs again - still nothing.
Could not get it back - so in the end I opened a new account with a new email - and kept son off it. But once you are banned it seems almost impossible to get back or talk to anyone to sort it out.

I set a new account a few months ago, immediately changed my email address on the account for some innocent reason. EBay suspended my account within 2 days. It took weeks and dozens of emails to clear this after sending copies of ID docs to them. I'm not aware at all of what I did wrong.

    ...

All I have done is change email addresses the first time and now changed ISP since I got the account open again.

Imagine this from Ebay's point of view:

A new customer signs up with them, then immediately changes their email address. This is going to set off alarm bells, as your email address is one of the things they use to confirm your identity.

After this has been resolved, you then sign in from a computer on a different network (change in ISP). This will also set off alarm bells, as this, along with a changing email address, is one of the signs of an account being hijacked.

Unfortunately, companies like Ebay only have limited methods of confirming your identity, and you changed two of them very soon after signing up. Hopefully they'll get it sorted out soon for you, but I wouldn't go changing any of your other details for a while! :rotfl::p
  • I think they will open it again and ill just leave my details set in stone!
email address is part of an identity although its normal to change it and have many, I can see that it has probably caused these issues now.

Ebay really have to have a rethink about this. Using multiple computers is something you should be able to do without all this hassle. It's why we sell online, so we can access our account from anywhere we happen to be. It's why I bank online, without any of these problems.
  • Hey. I've just had the exact same thing happen. They've restricted my account and are asking for Photo ID (fair enough) and a letter proving the address i live at is mine. (for a start i live with my parents so will they accept that)
And they want proof that the products ive sold are mine.. Well all the products were 2nd hand CDs/Dvds etc of mine. I don't have any proof. and i've already posted them.

Also this happened while i was away for a few days (which were unplanned). In the meantime Ebay have refunded two customers with a full refund, Despite the fact i've posted the products. and i was unable to reply to the problems the customers noted.

Is there a way i can solve this quickly? I don't want to lose more money. and i have things to sell.
