This surprises me, it's very common for people to have several accounts, for different purposes. I have 4, buying, selling, posting, personal/business. Never had a problem, all verified though.
Now my OH wants to open one to sell some stuff, you got me worried!

You do also know if you have more than ONE PayPal account in your name you will at some point during a PayPal review have your account blocked and your funds held until you can provide ID?

I have also heard someone losing all there PayPal funds in there second account!

Just be careful as having loads of accounts causes eBay to worry and like every business, rightly so!

Wrong. You can have more than one PP account, as long as they are not the same type. You can have one personal and one business/premier. You can also have a micropayment, I believe as the third one but I'm not entirely sure as I don't have one.

Oh, as I had two accounts before and one was suspended due to this and they advised me not to have two accounts again!

This as well, someone posted the same problem a few days ago here

All I know is what PP say in their help pages:

Can I have more than one PayPal account?
Answer : Under the terms of the PayPal User Agreement, customers may only hold one Personal account and either one Premier or one Business account.

You can add multiple eBay User IDs, email addresses or funding sources to each of your accounts, however the same information cannot be registered with more than one account at any one time.

I dont think FAX is secure though, you could FAX your details and they sit on there FAX machine for cleaners or anybody passing to pickup. Unless they have a secure FAX print where you have to log in to pick the FAX up which is unlikley. Email would be secure if digitally signed and encrypted. There upload service of ID docs doesn't work.

I've been to a couple of ebay sites in Dublin, London and Zurich, and from the people I was dealing with, they all received faxes via their computers. I don't recall seeing any traditional style fax machines in any of the communal areas.

Personally, if you are so concerned about personal data privacy, then maybe ebay is not the place for you. Afterall, anyone can find out your contact details relatively easily, without you even knowing - personal or business seller.

In fact, I'm not sure even being online in any form is ideal judging by your concerns!!

I have no problems, and I know a few other people have lost there account for making multiple accounts via there IP address although they never even used them - if you forget you've made two, its possible there review system has picked up you have two accounts and the newest one has been blocked.
Better clarify this to say you mean Paypal accounts, not eBay accounts.

I thought that applied to ebay accounts as well (although in the UK it's the same, if you want to sell you can't have one without the other....)

No, I've got quite a number of eBay accounts, you just need a different email address for each one.

I've had about four active ones and a couple of other posting IDs over the years, accounts registered for promotions and so on. Currently I only use two - a selling account and a buying/posting ID.

I have read about someone being barred from making a new account, but only once in eight years buying/selling on eBay and reading the forums.

As to what they can see regarding your information and where you are logging in, yes. In fact as far as I'm aware, this came in two years or so ago, so it's nothing new that they can track which computers you are using to log on most frequently and any change will flag problems in their system.

They don't track the actual "computer", they plant a flash cookie in your browser cache which identifies you. You just need to use Firefox with the Better Privacy add-on on for example and store that cookie in a "special" place letting it send out the info only when you want to. They don't know which computer you are using, only the ID of the cookie/browser. If you succeed in managing your flash cookies you will have no trouble running several ebay accounts from the same machine no problem.

Re tracking your location: just re-start your router and your IP will change, they will still know you are in Dorset and you are using BT but you are one out a few thousand users. Without the tracking cookie giving away your info they will be blind.

When you receive an email "your watched item is finishing soon" don't click on the link but copy/paste the item number in ebay search using Private Browsing if you want to remain anonimous, this way they won't have a clue it's you. Clicking the link they will plant another of these nasty new generation flash cookies, have you noticed the links they send by email are extremely long?
