  • What a charming lady you are Lucy loo.

People have given you good advice and yet you don't seem to want to listen. You shouldn't think that people are lecturing you, they are merely giving you advice in the hope that you don't fall for the same trick again.

You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink.

    Ho hum...
  • That was NOT advice. that was being sarcastic. As I said before I came on here to warn people not get advice. Where on my thread did I ask for advice? Advice would be a bit late now!

My Husband went on the Loan Centre looking for a payday loan. He filled the form in and them realised it was in fact a broker. They told him he was now a member so he immediately cancelled it and thought no more about it. The next day we found out that the Loan Centre had taken £61.50 from our debit card without our permission. We looked at the site and it does not say anywhere that they charge £61.50 fee. However it does say that you can cancel within 14 days and get a refund. He emailed them and heard nothing. We did a bit of digging on the internet and found an address in Essex and sent them a letter by recorded delivery asking for a refund. We also contacted the BBC's Watchdog and the Ombudman. [TEXT DELETED BY FORUM TEAM] We also sent an email to Richard Carter at Nostrum. We continued to send them emails and threatened to take them to court. Eventually they sent an email with a refund form and said they would give us a refund to our card. So if anyone has been scammed by these unscrupulous people then my advice is to bombard them with emails and send a letter by recorded delivery for a refund. Do not let the matter drop or they will continue to take money from your account whenever they like. We will wait to see if we get our refund and if not then we will do whatever it takes to destroy these people

Hi i had the same thing happen to me, like you i bombarded them with emails and sent of a letter,i was then told i would get my refund in 30 days, after 14 days i popped of another email asking where my cheque is, i had a reply last week and was told it would be with me in 7 days. it still hasn't turned up yet
As for checking here first i only became aware of this site after posting my problem on a modelling site, and got a lot of good help there instead of the look how smart i am that seems to go on here.

Sweaty77...Thank you!!! They have told me they will put it back on my card so email them again and tell them you want it back in your account and not a cheque? [text deleted by MSE Forum Team] tell them if you do not get a refund that you will be taking them to Court. Do not give up! Good Luck!!

    That's exactly our point!

We are saying to you that in future we recommend coming on here and asking a question so that you don't find yourself in the same position (or even if you don't ask a question, you do a quick search to see if anyone has had any problems with the company you are about do deal with). As Malky said in post 2, the loan centre has been mentioned on many occasions within MSE where people have found money taken. All we are saying is that you could have done a search and found this out.

Please don't think people are trying to have a go at you.

There are a lot of very nice people on this site that try to help.

A lot of people simply don't google for companies like this otherwise they would see what is going to happen.

Then they don't read the T&C's of the site either.

Can I ask why your husband didn't, do either?

Wow - explosive... But, just to say... You weren't scammed! You bought a service/membership and willingly gave away your details when authorising the payment.

By the way, the "fee" is clearly stated on the application screen - I just did a dummy application and look what was shown to me:

    Fee.jpg

The "one-off membership fee" of £69.50 shown clear as day and BEFORE I've entered my card details...
My posts are my own opinions based on my experiences and info gathered from sites such as this.
They are not a substitute for professional financial advice - but you knew that already didn't you? ;)

I canceled my card because of them, i don't want them have my new card details so im taking a cheque instead. Hope you get yours back too.
  • He did read the T&C's we both did and it does not say they will take £61.50. We are not the only ones who have been scammed and everyone says that they do not state taking a fee of £61.50. Looking at some of the comments on here I can only assume some of you work for this scam company?? Or maybe you are just a load of knowitall's who have never made a mistake?
  • Thanks Sweaty77 hope you do too! x
