The Loan Centre Warning!!!!

My Husband went on the Loan Centre looking for a payday loan. He filled the form in and them realised it was in fact a broker. They told him he was now a member so he immediately cancelled it and thought no more about it. The next day we found out that the Loan Centre had taken £61.50 from our debit card without our permission. We looked at the site and it does not say anywhere that they charge £61.50 fee. However it does say that you can cancel within 14 days and get a refund. He emailed them and heard nothing. We did a bit of digging on the internet and found an address in Essex and sent them a letter by recorded delivery asking for a refund. We also contacted the BBC's Watchdog and the Ombudman. [TEXT DELETED BY FORUM TEAM] We also sent an email to Richard Carter at Nostrum. We continued to send them emails and threatened to take them to court. Eventually they sent an email with a refund form and said they would give us a refund to our card. So if anyone has been scammed by these unscrupulous people then my advice is to bombard them with emails and send a letter by recorded delivery for a refund. Do not let the matter drop or they will continue to take money from your account whenever they like. We will wait to see if we get our refund and if not then we will do whatever it takes to destroy these people

Same old daily thread....groan! Posts like these have been done to death 1000's of times.

Why do you think the payment was taken without permission when your husband had clearly given the broker his card/bank details thus authorising them to do so?

I also guess that you missed the bit below which I've taken from their T&C's.

    Services

We provide a variety of services by phone, internet, mail and other means through a membership programme. In return for these services, You agree to pay a fee at inception which incorporates membership for one month.
  • We are trying to warn other people. Yes we were stupid but we wanted to make sure nobody else was caught by these thieves! If you haven't anything useful to say then keep your mouth shut!!!!

I was merely pointing out the above comment. You say you want to make sure no one else gets caught out by the same mistake you made but if the T&C's were read first then there will be fewer problems in the future. I never questioned your stupidity (your words, not mine)

The point is that you are claiming that the money was taken without your permission. Permission was given. You are also claiming that you were "scammed" and you call the company "thieves" - you were not "scammed" and they are not "thieves" - you just didn't look into what you were signing up for.

It's clearly mentioned on their website that you are going to be charged a fee and are taking out a "membership". On the front page, it states:
There are no fees until we have presented your lender options

Yes, this thread is useful in that hopefully others won't make the mistake you did. But you can't just go around badmouthing companies because you screwed up.

End of the day, if you're handing over your account/card details, it's up to YOU to ensure you know why your are doing so - that's the main lesson here and it applies to all instances where one hands over their account details.
My posts are my own opinions based on my experiences and info gathered from sites such as this.
They are not a substitute for professional financial advice - but you knew that already didn't you? ;)

  • There is no mention of a fee of £61.50 anywhere on their website!! Other people have also stated this so please get your facts right before commenting! I am only on here to warn people.
  • Lucy loo - you have been a member of this site since October 2008. Why not take full advantage of this facility and ask for advice before making any future financial decisions. Hopefully then you won't end up being so angry.
  • Whats this the Loan Centre appreciation commitee or its employees???
  • Also we cancelled it immediately so they should not have taken the money AFTER we had cancelled!!!

One thing that springs to my mind is that it is all well and good warning others but no one seems to bother checking here before handing over card details to loan brokers so really not sure it will be seen by them that really should see it.............Until of course it is too late and they then want to go searching for the company they think has stolen from them..

    Just a thought though
    There is a race of men that don't fit in; A race that can't stand still;
So they break the hearts of kith and kin, and roam the world at will.

  • Anyway hopefully I have warned other people and stopped them being scammed so I don't give a fat shiny one what you say! I did not come on here to get a lecture off you lot! Bye
