Loan Centre
Has anyone had any dealings with Loan Centre?
I registered with them believing (stupidly) that they were responsible for providing a loan to me rather than broking it out.
I have not accepted anything that they have offered and so far the fee that they requested hasn't been taken from my account so I contacted them to tell them I didn't need their services and that they should cancel my details and not take any payment from me. This is a copy of their response:-
"This payment was taken from your account as agreed as a one off membership joining fee when you completed the on line application. As stated on the website when you joined, we don't charge this fee upfront and as promised, the fee is only charged after we have found you your first recommended Lender and Loan. This service is a membership and your personal webpage will be updated regularly as new and cheaper plans, new Lenders and discounts become available to you. Your membership also includes access to your free credit report, over £85 worth of eBooks, discounts which can save you hundreds of pounds and access to lenders you won't find anywhere else."
Am I able to apply for a refund under the terms of the Consumer Credit Act for any amount over the £5 fee that they should charge if they do take any money from my account?
I feel stupid enough already

Sounds like a new slant on an old scam. If you're persistent you will probably get your money back (less £5), but they may have found a way round having to re-imburse people. Keep us updated. It is best never to give your account details to anyone or any company you don't trust absolutely - then they can't take anything.I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0

They haven't actually taken any money at the moment as it set the date for 25th this month. Do you think there would be any use contacting my bank to advise them of the situation and ask them to refuse their request for payment?0
-
Update on situation.
I emailed Loan Centre back again telling them that I have not and will not be accepting any loans from them. This is their reply:-
"
Dear Sirs; (???)
Thank you for your email.
After initially receiving your membership request this was processed that same day and your application has been underwritten by our agents. The results of our search are available to you now and have been ready for you to view. These results can be accessed via the Loan Centre home page - please log on to access your Personal Money Centre Webpage which also contains details of the additional benefits of your membership.
As per our terms and conditions, we have found and presented lenders to you and have therefore fulfilled the membership service we committed to and for which you have paid your membership fee.
Now you're a member you will have the benefit of our product updates and further member only updates, remember to check your homepage on a regular basis."
Sounds like I'm going to have resign myself to the fact that I'm not going to get anywhere with the initial sum and make sure they don't taken anymore money from me0 -
Have you logged in and seen what offers are available to you?0

I had a look at a couple, but the first one said no when I applied (Zopa) and the second never got back to me.
I've since sourced the money I'd been looking for (£800) elsewhere so didn't need to persue this any more.
To make sure they don't try to take any further monthly payments (£9) I sent them a contact email from their website to cancel the 'membership' and I've now had a different reply from them.
"You have the right to cancel your membership and to do so you must write to us within 14 days of agreeing to our terms and conditions on our website to receive a refund.
If you wish to cancel, you must write to the Loan Centre at the address below confirming your cancellation and request for a refund, and in this event we will refund your fee within 30 days of the date on which we receive your written request to cancel your membership. We do not receive the membership fee paid on your credit or debit card for a minimum of 30 days, therefore we cannot refund the fees earlier as we will not have received the funds ourselves. "
I'm going to write to them at the address given in their email and see what happens as I'm within the 14 day sign up period.0 -
Hi, this is easy to solve as they stung me as well.
I sent them a one line email saying...
"I do not accept you're computer generated email response, and as already stated, I agreed to NO fees being taken from my account. I am notw beginning court proceedings against you."
Within an hour I got a reply giving me details of how to obtain a refund. Just have to write into them and request it, minus the £5. Id you need details, let me know0 -
Thanks for the info.
Based on their email reply which gave me their Customer Service address I've already written to them so that they can refund my money to me (minus the £5).
Let's see how long it takes. Did it take the 30 days to get your money back?0 -
Hi there,
I applied for a payday loan last week! I did not realise that i was applying with a brokers and was unaware that they would charge me a fee. I did not take any payday loan out after deciding that it just wasnt worth the hassle or the interest. Today i have checked my account and the loan-centre have debited it for the sum of £47.50 without my consent or making me aware of this. I just dont get how these companies can get away with this. I mean the majority of applicants will be applying for a loan due to the fact that they are in financial difficulty, then these companies are allowed to just debit your account of whatever monies they feel like for the privelage of sending you spam.
Can someone please let me no how i can go about reclaiming these monies back, either through the company or if there is anything my bank will be able to do.0 -

They get away with because people are daft enough to give their bank account details to strangers over the phone. You can reclaim the fee from them (less £5 that they are able to keep) but you may have to be persistent. In future do not give out bank account and debit card details to anyone or any company that you don't trust absolutely.I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0 -
