have a good time on your nights out...don't blame you putting the kids on packed lunches as school dinners cost a fortune.

    Too right.

I've always done packed lunches for mine & there are often deals to be found on drinks & frubes etc... DD loves having homemade cakes or biccies in hers & I often get requests for 2 of them as her friends like them too :D

I'm dreading her starting High School as they have a canteen & apparently they use a prepay card which needs to be topped up every week or so ... I know of one parent who puts £20 a week on it  I'm sure I spend less than £10 now.

Hope half term isnt too costly for you.
  • Morning diary and lurkers :)

Haven’t written in my diary again all week due to half term but am back again. Last week was very busy, I managed to decorate DD’s room and she now has a ‘big girls’ room that she’s always wanted.

We have also worked out that we cannot afford to move, despite how much we want to so we are stuck where we are unless an old rich family relation dies, well one that likes us anyway lol. So I mentioned to DH that I still want to get the house sorted, for one the landing/stairs and hallway have been stripped of wall paper for the past 3 years.

Any how on to today, DD has an appointment with the NHS speech therapist for a follow up on how she’s progressing. I need to ring the medical insurers and find out whether they are going to cover DD or not.

No work for me today due to an inset day at the school I work at, however as I am picking DD up at 1.15pm that gives me 4 hours to crack on with the house and hopefully get it back to the state it was pre-half term. A visit to the Flylady thread is in order today.

My money diet starts again this week as does not using the car apart from work. I have seen how much we have left in the account and want to make it last as much as possible.

I am aiming to do a car boot on Sunday and hopefully get rid of some carp that’s been hanging around and earn some money whilst I am at it.

    Have a good day everyone.
  • Happy March!

We made it through part of the financial month for us and not only that we survived February. I need to check the banking online that way I can determine just how much we have left and what needs to come out.

I have a lot planned for March; I need to pay for our holiday in April as well as my birthday coming up too.

On the home side of things, I need to keep doing the Flylady. With the finances side of things, I need to keep spending to a minimum and carry on with the walking to school and back with the kids.

I filled my car up about 2 weeks ago and I still have half a tank in there, I am going to do my darndest to make it last, I need to use it to go to work but other than that I am aiming to not use it.

I am debating whether to attempt to clear the ironing pile that is currently growing in the conservatory this month; I need to clear the conservatory as it is so this might count towards it.

    Have a good day everyone.

    everything sounded positive there
  • Morning so glad it’s Friday today, it’s been a long and busy week.

I didn’t get chance to do any Flylady this past few days, Monday started off really well but everything went downhill after that. Have to start again on that next week.

I did the finances last night and this month is going to be very, very difficult. I am hoping that the money gods looks down on me favourably and let me make lots of pennies on Sunday as I feel I will need the extra money.

Still haven’t put any petrol in my car and I’m not still determined to make it last.

Packed lunches seem to have been a success this week with the kids; I have frozen some mini sausages and snack eggs for DS so we’ve got enough for the next few weeks for him.

  • Morning peeps,

I’ve been very bad and not been updating my diary, instead I have been hiding on Facebook to which a lot of MSEr’s will testify.

The reason being is that I have been panicking and worrying over the money situation and how we are going to get out of it. April has a lot of things going on, the weekend of 2-3 Apr we are going to see my mum, she retires and it’s her birthday as well as Mother’s Day that weekend and then towards the end of April we are going on holiday to Devon for four days.

The credit card has gone up a bit which I will need to tackle again once April is out the way as I think it will go up again. Not happy at all but I was predicting that all of April will go on the credit card where as I think only part of April will instead.

On the plus side, I have managed to save some money this month, we got the Water bill through and usually we have paid it in full but this time I’ve had to do it in instalments and the Council Tax bill came through, in the past they’ve never let you pay over 12 months when paying by DD but I rang them again and put the question to them and they let us…probably because a lot of households are feeling the pinch I think.

Last month I walked a lot with the kids and managed to make the petrol in the car last, however I did have to put £10 worth in towards the end of the month. Target this month is to make it last up until DH gets paid again.

I am still on the look out for money and have put the word out that I am will do a term time cleaning job, just waiting for some one to contact me. I may have to put an advert in the local shop to generate some interest.

The car boot sale was a bit of a disaster, I only made £23 but the weather was cold and the boot sale wasn’t as big as I had expected. The next one is at Pease Pottage and is huge, so I am expecting to make a bit more there.

So, the main thing is that you are not burying your head in the sand and blindly putting everything on the card....you are looking forward, trying to assess the needs, and making adjustments (eg walking, packed lunches) to achieve what you need to achieve. OK, so it may not plug the gap fully, but if it goes part way there, then that is actually pretty good when you compare it with years gone by!

  • Thanks Hypno. I hadn't thought of it like that :) Hopefully we will not be in too bad a position come Christmas.

On a different note, the oven is playing up and the fan won't go round...I think I may have to give in and get someone round to look at it.
