  • Morning peeps,

I hope that everyone has had a great Easter so far? I haven’t posted as we’ve been on holiday.

A lot has happened this week, I told DH what we need to do if we are to get to grips with the finances and he’s said ‘we’ve got to do, what we need to’. So no more playing about, time to take it one step further. So we’ve had four wonderful days in Devon, most of the time was spent on the beach which was just the break we needed; I made it my priority that I would not worry about the finances whilst we were away but to deal with them on our return.

On the plus side, one of DH’s other sisters got in touch and invited us to theirs yesterday; I was expecting to walk into a very uncomfortable situation but this didn’t happen and as such DH now has another sister that he can talk to. The other one we will definitely not hear from and that is fine by us. As a consequence of yesterday I got even more sunburnt lol but never mind, it was worth it.

Once I had sorted the finances out, I realised that I needed to do ‘pots’ again and to build up the reserves as this would help in the long run. I used to have an account with Principality Building Society but stupidly I closed it, so have opened another account with them and aim to use the account for the ‘pots’.

Now to put the plan in to action.

Current Credit Card debt is: £5830.27  there it is in all it horrible glory, now I know what it is I can now put my plan in to action.

    So here goes, Plan #3.

At least you know your new starting point - it is always better when facts are faced.

    You'll get there x

  • Thanks Hypno :)

I forgot to mention that my debit card got cloned over last week, so I am left without one until my new one comes through in a few days.

The good news is that the bank noticed and stopped any transactions before any money got taken out of the account.

At least I won't spend anything for the time being lol.
  • So to make matters worse, it appears we have a leaky drain. Under the conservatory is an old Anderson shelter that can still be accessed, however whilst out in the garden this afternoon I heard the sound of rushing water in the shelter.

This has happened in the past about 4 years ago and I know that the previous owners had problems with the drain.

So the excess is £250 and the insurance company is sending someone out to look at it.

I definately think that it is someone elses turn for the run of bad luck now....Sigh!

Oh no :( do hope the drain is easily & cheaply sorted & the card cloning hasnt caused any problems.

Best of luck with Plan 3

  • Morning :D

Well after a bit of a disastrous couple of weeks financially, I have woken up full of enthusiasm. We might not end up being totally debt free this year but so help me I am damn well going to try hard and clear as much as possible.

I am waiting for some money to clear in my Principality account so I can finally start the pots off. I told DH that I would update him with the details of how the pots are growing and the debt is decreasing so that he knows that it is going down.

On Friday we have the new washing machine being delivered and we are transferring some of the money from the savings account to the credit card to pay for it.

We are walking to school and back today and I am tempted to not move my car and spend the hour walking to the school I work at but will see how I get on time wise.

The people who are coming to see the drain are due to ring today to make an appointment to see it, just as I’d managed to get the premium as low as possible, still never mind.

    Have a good day everyone.

looks like you have a plan
  • I hope that this posts ok? I have had horrendous trouble getting on here and even when I went to post my ‘post’ disappeared? Any how I know I’ve been absent but on the plus side the house is coming along nicely.

So bear with me, long post coming.

    The Bad

The credit card has kept rising and now stands at a whopping £6347.89, mega bad couple of months and I can’t see it getting any better at the moment.

The washer gave up the ghost and we ended up having to buy a new one, this has gone on the credit card.

Walking to and from school is going well at the moment, although my usage of the car needs a rethink.

Grocery spends are through the roof at the moment, I am trying to adjust them but need more practise. DH has given me a list of food for lunches that he would like as he said he thinks he’s spending a ridiculous amount on lunches (he’s up in London on site so you can figure out roughly how much per month/week that is!).

Meal planning hasn’t gone to good either…I need a good kick up the bum there and need to get back on track again with it.

    The No So Bad :o

To recap over the past few weeks, the Principality account is now in full swing and we have a whopping £21 in there, I have set it up so that £10 per month goes in and I can then adjust the ‘pots’ accordingly. I really want to up the amount to at least £20 before the end of the year but will see how things pan out.

The drain people came, cleaned the drain and went. It appears that there was a blockage and that caused the problem; all’s well now it appears.

We have finally got our act together with the house, we found some paint, lining paper and wallpaper paste under the stairs and are in the process of finishing decorating the hallway/stairs/landing. We are going to paint it a slightly off white colour once we have finished but already it’s made a difference out there.

My lovely mum sent us down a B&Q voucher for £100; we still have £40 left from the one she gave us for Christmas. She said she doesn’t want us to stop and really wants to see the house finally finished…she’s lovely bless her.

She also sent us four cases of wine…she said that ‘we’ needed something nice for a change. :D

    The Plan

As you can no doubt figure out this hasn’t quite been working out, my inability to be able post on here has resulted in my lack of enthusiasm for it to work. I hope it is now working and you can see this post :)

DH gets paid in 14 days, so that’s something to look forward to. I have already budgeted for next month and I have told DH that we need to still be strict as we have DS’s birthday at the end of the month and we have DH’s niece’s Christening in less than two weeks.

I have temporarily stopped saving the £2 coins as at the moment I need them but there is always next year when I can start again but I have tried to keep saving the change.

The Tesco points are adding up nicely and I need to try and top up my Christmas saver so that we have something more this year to spend in there.

I hope that you can see this post, otherwise I may need to create a new account and I really don’t want the hassle of all that.

  • Yay! It's working, silly thing. Have tried for ages to get this to work.

I think I may have had a virus or something...still can't access FV though.
