I know this offer is now over, but I just wanted to thank the OP Cagan for this. Im hoping they do the same offer next year!
We're just back from our break in the Newcastle hotel and it was a lovely hotel, with lovely meals, and a great bar with residents being able to a) get happy hour prices all the time and b) being able to charge to the room so no need to carry cash.
The Newcastle hotel was in a lovely area called Jesmond with cool wee shops nearby and lots of other bars and coffee shops nearby (including Pizza Express literally 100 yeard along the road which you could use your tesco vouchers in!) and it was really accessible for the town centre as there was a metro stop (west jesmond) just 5 minutes walk away which was then only 5 mins into the city centre. It was also only £5 for a taxi from the train station.0 -

thanks for this - we're heading to Newcastle next weekend on the offer too!
What is breakfast like and how does the evening meal work? Do you get a set amount of money to spend?
Are drinks expensive in the bar?

The breakfast is buffet style so you help yourself. Full english, toast cheese cereals, and fruit. Two choices of juices and tea coffee water. 7.30-9.30am.
The evening meal 6.30 to 9.30 I believe - is a set 3 course menu - with 4 choices per each course. I'm a veggie and the second night I asked for the pasta without the bacon which they did as eveything s freshly cooked. we stayed the Thu/ Fri and on the Friday they had 3 extra options on the mains which were a £5 supplement and a extra cheese board option on the dessert which was a £3 supplement.
The bar prices are fine.
There is white wine, house spirits and dash, pint of fosters and the cocktail of the week on the happy hour for £2. And residents get happy hour prices all the time as long as you show your room card.
The cocktail menu has both happy hour prices and normal prices and there was quite a few at happy hour prices of £2.75 or £2.50. So we had lots of cocktails!!0 -
had the 2 night break at the Nottingham Strathdon this month. The food was amazing and the staff extremely pleasant and helpful. Room (twin) was smaller than I expected and very busy road outside but perfectly adequate. Very good value for money.0

Son's just got back from Bournemouth, had a massive room with queen size bed, 32 inch flat screen tv, lovely bathroom. Food was fantastic and the hotel is right in the centre of Bournemouth. He loved it!! Absolute bargain, wish I'd got one for myself.0

My son did a split stay and had one night in Carlisle and another in Newcastle. He rang me to say how much did I spend on the voucher as the room in Carlisle is coming up as £200 when he looked. Had a lovely meal in the hotel in Carlise but didn't fancy the menu at the Newcastle hotel but they let him swap it for a curry in the bar and some drinks instead. He really enjoyed his valentine's weekend away with his fiancee.
Thanks to the OP for posting this. If it ever comes up again I will bag a break for me and my hubbyThe Cabbage
