  • i take quite a collection of goodies .
they can be anything from xmas nappy cakes /baby gifts to all hand made sewn items and also a few knitted goods.. i do alway sell out of my sock monkeys...but then again each one is different and they are all dressed... plus i come away with many more orders.

i dont sell the snowman soup/ reindeer food but thats only because i never have enough time to make them in the run up to the fair. i do hink they are great

so the min cost of anything on my stall is £3

some of the items are priced up where i only make £1 clear profit but then again i can make much more on other items. so swings and roundabouts.

i do enjoy meeting all the people and having a chat.
i have used the money to purchase a new all singing n dancing sewing machine with embroidery facilities. so looking forward to having the time to play with that

I've never done sewing but think I may give sock monkeys a go! They look fantastic. What do you stuff them with? Any hints/tips would be appreciated. I do Nappy/Pamper cakes but no interest :(
Think I may have to have a go at a few other things see how I get on.

I've got everything crossed for us jill_b29!! we have to do better than £5 profit :(
Next one is this sunday at a village church, hoping that as its a small but quite upmarket village quite a few will turn out and be happy to loosen those purse strings for me, am trying desperately to come up with some ideas for a box of candy canes I bought for absolutely no reason! so far I have made a santas sleigh and put some quality streets in a 'sack' on the back and am trying to figure out how to make santa from a mini box of smarties and a chupa chups lolly!!

Jakes-mum I had some candy canes left over and stuck 2 together in a heart shape, then added some ribbon to make it into a tree decoration.
My fair on Saturday is a church event, so I'm hoping a few more families will be out spending! That is if it isn't snowed off. Can't tell you how fed up I am already of this snow.
I just want to know if my things will sell, then I know whether or not to keep ploughing my money into this!

i think i'll try that for the left over candy canes as this sleigh is doing my nut so dont think I could face making a second one looool!

I know what you mean, i started selling at craft fairs last year and even though I got loads of positive feedback from the people who looked at my stall, I just never seemed to make any real money from it :( worse one had to be the wood green animal shelter one that cost me £70 for 2 days and I sold £20 worth of stuff!! Thats why I only just did one last week as that was soul destroying and I vowed never again, but I do love to make things!! and theres only so much you can give away

  • I know what you mean. It's lovely when people tell you that your things are lovely but unfortunately that isn't money in the till! I have some fairs next year that I haven't signed up for yet as they r 40 pounds each. I just don't know what to do.

I havent even looked for next year, I dont find Cambridgeshire very forthcoming with fairs :( I think if I do any they will be under £20 for the stall so at least I havent got to sell much to cover the cost and will make sure I have lots of cheapy items (reindeer flannels, christmas tree decs etc) so I can try and make the stall with those and take the pressure off my jewellery and stuff. Have just opened a folksy account to see if I have any luck on there with the jewellery but really dont know how long you keep trying before you accept that you dont have what people want to buy :(:(:(

  • I've had a really good time with fairs recently! Almost sold out a the weekend and now have a shop stocking my nappy cakes woohoo! COnsidering weather I'm pleased as people just don't wanna go out in this

I would advise if you are just starting out don't be disheartened. It can take a while to make it successful. I have customers who look out for me and ring me up if they want something now and repeat custom is always great.

Jakes-mum, I have a folksy account too where I try to sell my accessories, knitted stuff and a few other bits - just stuff I enjoy making really but competition is fierce on there. There are loads of people probably selling similar to you so it can be hard. Join the folksy forums and chat to others they are a friendly bunch on there! and you have to really promote yourself to be a sucess! Whats your folksy shop I'll have a look!

Hiya brudie25, im listed under lily may designs on there. I'll keep going with the craft fairs as i do love to make things but im just one of those people that take a bad fair personally, I know its not really a slight against my makes as if I have a bad fair usually the other stall holders are also grumbling about the lack of buyers aswell.

  • I've got my first ever craft fair on Saturday and I'm petrified!!!

It's a stall at a local hospice's xmas fayre and I've been before but i think it's quite a big one.

I'm going to be selling reindeer food, snowman poop, reindeer poop and a teabag/card gift thingy! Everything is going to be £1.50.

I'm really lost on how many to make and take with me!! I've got a stall the weekend after at a local town's victorian xmas day thing too! I've spent a lot of money on the stalls and buying all stuff and need to make something back!!

Do these sort of gifts sell well??

    Soooo scared!!!! :o
