Try using the SDmove app. It tells you which ones are safe to move and which ones need to stay on the internal storage. And then moves the safe ones for you.

I have sdmove on one phone and apps2sd on another. Both do the job well. Apps2sd can clean cache on all apps and free some internal memory too.

A . infront of a folder name means it is hidden from the normal file system and usually contains system files which you shouldn't need to touch or view at all

.htcnews will be either category logos or cached images from a news app.
The only news app I have on the phone is the one that comes pre installed on the phone, I have never opened it let alone used it.

.bookmark_thumb will presumably be thumbnails for bookmarks in the browser.
There are no bookmarks stored. The screenshots are of websites I have visited for example I received an email yesterday and hit the unsubscribe link and there is a screen shot of the unsubscribe page there. Would this be images from my history? If so surely there must be a way that this can be turned off?

The foursquare cache folder is doing what it should be doing, saving regularly used images to prevent it having to download them each time.Foursquare is used approx once a month (only use it for checking in at Wetherspoons to get 20% off my food bill) But these are reappearing each time after they have been deleted.

Is there not a way to stop them all from happening? Saying that I wasn't the only person that had the same problem earlier my friend actually found loads of pictures of women on her boyfriends phone when he plugged it into her laptop to charge it uploaded the pics you can imagine the trouble it could have caused had we not of known that the HTC did this! :rotfl:

They're cached thumbnails no screenshots :)

They're used by applications for reference, like how a bookmark of a webpage has a picture of the page as you last viewed it, or as you don't have any, I guess it will be images for the history instead. As Marcouk quite rightly states, these are hidden files and wont show up in a gallery or anything like that, you'll only find them on file managers. This is just the way it works and you wont be able to stop it, the apps are coded like this.

yes even i have found these photos on my htc desire. loads of photos i have never taken or even seen on any website. many photos of htc devices and probably htc employees holding other htc phones and many other photos, i found them using file managers and deleted loads of them but there are loads more. was just trying to free up some memory. if some one can tell me which folder they reside in then i can delete them all at one go. i forgot which folder they reside in.

many of the document readers on android cant open open office files. i recently found the "openoffice document reader" app and downloaded it and donated using the donate app to support such developers. (i dont know the developer - better clarify that before someone asks!).

this might interest people using open office instead of MSoffice.

i also use documents to go paid version on one phone and free version on another. i have quickoffice free version on both the phones. the paid version of documents to go is ok but when editing presentations and editing slides with tables then one cant edit the text in the table but you can edit text otherwise. i havent tried editing images, in edit mode i could only see the text. viewing presentations is good with very few glitches for icons etc probably because of some incompatibility of versions of powerpoint supported. Although file management is not one of the strong points of documents to go. i use mini file manager instead for file management on sd card.

  • Try the free game ... airattack HD lite by "art in games". It is an awesome game, 26+mb in size, but after moving to SD card it is only 184kb on internal memory.

    Other good games are ...
Asphalt HD trial by gameloft .. free trial
    Bejewelled
    Chess
    Tank hero
Gameloft games sometimes come in offers a couple of times a year.
