I'm collecting mine at the moment to make plastic bag yarn
then I intend to crochet a bag out of then that is FAR sturdier than any Bags For Life and unique too
if I really get into crochet with plastic bags I might start making them for other people too for presents - just my green friends though... everyone else might think I'm odd
(OH already does but has decided he loves me anyway - odd or not bless him)

I found a website with loads of ideas for knitting and crochet with plastic bags - I'm thinking I may make a doormat - they are machine washable (not tumble dry-able obviously!:rotfl:) and they apparently soften up with each wash. Cant crochet though so I will be knitting!
I always reuse my carriers - mostly as bin liners for bedroom and bathroom. If I didnt use carriers I would buy bin liners and I doubt that's an improvement... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

I have one Tickled Pink canvas bag and 2 Tesco Finest canvas bags.
I use my Tickled Pink one every day to carry my bait and all other items needed for work - but I keepy my Finest bags folded up in there too so if we decide to go to shops straight from work I can put my shopping in them instead of using plastic bags.
Also as I mostly shop online at Tesco whenever I get a delivery I already have all of the bags that were left last time ready to hand back to the driver.Dream of being mortgage free....

Just a quick question about the green points. Sorry if this is in the thread earlier somewhere i didnt have time to read it all.
You get 1 green point per plastic bag you reuse but how do they know you have reused it do you have to tell them then they add them to your account. I gather greenpoints are just the same as clubcard points and to claim greenpoints do you have to reuse the tesco's plastic bags or can you claim greenpoints for using another bag (bag for life for example)

Anything other than a new bag will get you a green point.0

Make sure you tell the shop assistant, though, and say you would like "green points for re-using, please".
Some are good at spotting a customer re-using a bag without having it pointed out to them but others (sometimes the new ones) don't do it. Sometimes they don't add the points even if you do point it out but generally the polite request works.0 -
I always use my own bags - bags for life and whatever carriers I've grabbed out of my bag drawer and I'm amazed at the number of times I've checked the receipt when I've got home and they haven't given me the points. And it's usually when they've asked me if I need help packing and I've given them my bags to use!
Mind you I make a point of reminding the cashiers now and some of them have actually given me a lot more points than they should have so it's made up for it.0 -

Hi, sorry haven’t been back to this thread for a while.
I’ve been searching for ages but I cant find the page I mentioned – I thought it was on the about.com website but the link I have is dead.
If you google ‘knitting with plastic bags’ or crochet, or uses for plastic bags, etc, you will get loads of results.
crochet with plastic bags

ghosts and other stuff that kids might enjoy making

and this interesting idea on the H2G2 website http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A450587
please please let me know if you try this one!
This site explains how to create yarn from plastic bags for knitting or crochet.etc http://www.diynetwork.com/diy/na_other/article/0,2025,DIY_14142_4891186,00.html
Somwhere there is a page that tells you how to plait strips of plastic carriers, wind the strips into a circle or oval shape and then stitch the pieces to hold together (making sure it lies flat) to make a washable doormat. If I can find that - or any others - I will post here.... don't throw the string away. You always need string!
